Speakers have got to go.

So, here's the deal. I got a great deal on my 2013 1700 Voyager about two months ago. It had 1930 miles on it, and aside from a scratch and a missing antenna, it's in perfect condition. BUT....I don't want the speakers. I don't need them, or the stereo, so they're coming out.

My question is this: Does anyone have any ideas/thoughts/musings/suggestions or whatnot on what I can do with the empty space that will be left behind? I was thinking of storage spaces, but I'm open to the possibilities.

Thanks in advance.

Why remove them? You don't have to use the stereo, and removing isn't going to help your resale/trade in value. Just don't use the stereo.

Same advice here, keep them in and save the resale value down the road. Most guys moving up to a touring bike would want the radio for the long rides.

I get your points, but they're still going. I'm not worried about resale value, and I've got no interest in straining to hear any music over highway winds at any appreciable speed (something I've already tested at 80mph). I've got riders headphones and a bluetooth communication system for all my audio needs.

Anyhow, still interested in any thoughts for replacement.

Sounds like you are not going to get any recommendations on here.
Most people, myself included, cant see the point in what you are proposing.

I have done just the opposite of you. I removed the glove boxes so that I could install 3-1/2" speakers in the glove box doors, and added a 300 watt clarion amp. Personally, sound was more important to me than storage. I've actually removed the trunk in favor of the bagger look because I have a cargo trailer for travelling purposes.

That being said, everyone has their own taste and their own ideas. If I was going to remove the speakers, I think I would probably make a couple more glove boxes to increase possible storage

I find this an interesting question. Not something I would do but here area few off the cuff thoughts. One of them may make you think of something else. ( Brain storming)
How about an Air compressor, Windshield wiper fluid, Flush mount cell phone holder, GPS, water bottle cooler, any gauges for things other than the stock ones, A larger clock, Mirrors, 3D graphics.

I'm a bit confused by the willingness of people to pop in and NOT answer my question, but whatever makes ya happy, I guess.

Ponitail, that's a good looking ride you've got, I think that's top notch, and I'll probably end up with a few extra storage spaces like you suggest.

Mbarr10, those are good suggestions, I can work with that kind of brainstorming, thanks for your thoughts.

Greetings,
Spitballing - The radio location might make a good home for a Dakota Digital information center - Oil temp, ambient air temp, amp meter, etc.
The speaker holes could be GPS/water bottle pocket/cell phone holder. Any of the crap we are currently shoving onto the handle bars...

Basically more of what MBarr's brainstorming was getting you.
Peg: You make me laugh!

Ride safe,
Smokier

Greetings, Here is something to keep in the back of your head if removing the speakers. I have found that the best way to replace a burnt out Fog/Driving light is through the speaker opening vs through the glove box. (My big fat hands do not like the glove box holes)

Also, whatever you do with the space / holes in the fairing - remember that the Fairing is not a WATERPROOF environment. With the fairing protecting the electronics from direct weather, there is still airflow under the fairing which keeps things cooler under there. Things can and do get damp / wet / dusty.

Good luck on whatever you decide to do and post some pictures of what you end up with. - You might be a trend setter.

Don't be confused, they got your back. Just not the answer you wanted to hear. It's Learning from other peoples mistakes.

But then Sometimes, I like to color outside the lines too. Let me Know what your going to do. I do find it interesting.

Had a 1986 Gold Wing Interstate that did not come with a radio but had the knock out for one. I cut out a place the size of a CB radio that I had and put that in.

Since you mentioned that you have Bluetooth headsets, I'd replace that factory stereo with a Bluetooth stereo . There is someone on here that makes a replacement plate for the factory stereo. If you wanted one of those without a cutout for the stereo he might help with that too. I don't recall his name but I'm sure there are others that do. Good luck on your project.k
