Front Tire Tread Depth for New Tire

I have the Commander II 73H front tire that was purchased and installed by my local dealer. When it was new the tread depth was only 5/32 deep and I would like to know what the depth of a brand new one should be.

I'm thinking that I received a used tire because my mileage for this tire will be less than the stock tire. Based on the current wear I will only get 7053 miles when I am down to 1/32 left. I had 2/32 left on the stock front tire and 8618 miles on that tire.

Does anyone know what the new tread depth should be on the Commander II 130/90/B-16 tire

Hmm, I'd like to know too. I have 11k on my front & wonder how long I have left, as I can tell it's showing wear. Rear has 6k, betting it will go 12. Much better than stock 8k.

If Lincoln's entire head is visible, the tire is worn to approximately 2/32" and is considered legally worn out in most States.

I'm not looking for the minimum tread depth, just the manufactured depth when new.

In the owners manual it says the minimum for the front tire is 1mm which is very close to 1/32. I wonder if the standard is different for a bike compared to a car.

New MCII tires have 5/32 tread on front and 10/32 tread on back tire. Am on 4th set and of MCII and they were all the same.

Thanks ray2, that's exactly what I was looking for. Since I didn't get as much wear out of the Commander II tire on the front I will go back to the stock Bridgestone tire.

I do like the Commander II on the rear as I am getting 2-1/2 times better mileage then the stock Bridgestones.

I just replaced both Commander II tires, neither was at the wear bars yet at 50,000 kms. (31,000 miles)
38 psi front, 42 rear, with dyna beads and a fork brace.

I seem to recall that you've at some point used a rear MCII on the front, turned around? Much deeper tread, similar pattern? I made a note of that excellent idea somewhere in the back of my mind, and would certainly be interested in the results of your experiment. I'm sure you're about two or three more sets of tires down the road by now.

I'm trying Metzeler out currently, but the rear has not worn well, and I'll likely move back to MCII's next time around.

Greetings - Other options you may want to try.

Metzler 888 Marathon
or
Dunlop American Elite

I'm currently on my second Metzler and am at 15,000 still going. Part way through this tire I added the All Ball Bearings and Garry's Fork Brace. - Now I just need to decide when I'm gonna change it. (I have a tendency to change them before they need it due to taking longer trips - Don't want them getting bald during a trip)

I really like the Metzler 888 front tire - Rear 888 was not bad but I've come to like the Dunlop better.

Now all that said - I've got a new Front Dunlop American Elite sitting in the Garage just waiting to try. I like to try different tires to see which I like the best, I never would have found the Dunlop rear that I really like if I had stuck with the Metzler 888 that I liked for the rear.

In my bazillion (100,000 Voyager miles) I've tried a lot of different tires. My only comment on the Bridgestones is this. If you have a Voyager/Vaquero with stock head bearings that have developed "The Wobble" - The Bridgestone front is the tread pattern that will LEAST magnify the Wobble.

Good Luck
All Ball's and Garry's Fork Brace - all the way!~!!!

Not me. I've always run proper tires mounted correctly.

I have considered this. I am wanting to give RADIALS all the way around a try. The only front radial in the correct size is a AVON Cobra. However, there are more choices in RADIALS designated as REAR, which from a size perspective would fit on front.

Ride safe,
Smokier

Bingo I started to receive a slight wobble after installing the MCII front tire so I want to go back to a stock front tire to try it out. Since I got better mileage of the stock compared to the MCII I have nothing to lose.

I have had 2 Commanders on the front of my Voyager, and the best mileage I've gotten was with a Shinko 777HD, at just over 20k miles. The Commanders were done at 19k for the 1st one and only 14.5k for the 2nd tire. The stock Exedra lasted about 11.5 miles. Just installed another Shinko on the front. I do change my tire once they reach the wear bars.

I have 15k on my MCii's. Front is still looking strong. Rear looks even better. I'm estimating I'll get 23-25k out of the front
