After the crash - the bike and trailer amazing

Well it is mostly in the video how the bike is.

Surgery this Wednesday on my wrist is broken in three spots and that is no big deal be up and hand working as normal in next couple months.

Big shout out to a few people who helped me ever so much I can never repay you for what you did.

Don Scott - rescued me from Valemount Hotel after the accident
Colin Cherest - Who drove me in his truck with trailer to Valemount to load bike and trailer and bring it on home.
Arnold the tow truck driver - This man is amazing he not only picked up my bike after accident but did it with out causing any more damage to bike and trailer. He went out of his way to get me clothes out of trailer and things I needed while in hotel room waiting for ride home three days later from Don. He visited with me and made the pain go away for that time while talking to him. He did not over charge me for his services he undercharged me really for all he did.

To all you who cared on here and other forums I am on who are friends and fellow bikers thanks ever so much for your well wishes and concern.

It is amazing the people you become friends with in life so lucky I am.

So keep watching will up date you all on the improvements made to bike and what I do to it as I put it back together. That will start roughly in October first I have to heal up totally.

By the way I am walking ever so great now did about 14 blocks in Jasper yesterday. It all feels great. Just the hand and two broken ribs to heal now and I will be back.

Thanks again all.

Dave

She runs but not well. What's a "deck-el"? You mentioned that (I think referring to the trailer) a few times. Glad to hear you're ok. Screw the bike. Let the insurance company buy you a new one. I wouldn't bother trying to save parts.

Here in Alberta Canada we only have private insurance and it is very expensive. I only had PLPD on my bike and all my bikes in past years this is all I have had. I have saved thousands of dollars probably up to 30 grand in my life doing this. I estimate bike and trailer to have about 4 to 5 grand damage if I had someone do the work. I can do the work except for paint. I would say if I can find new used parts 2500 in parts needed.

Unlike you guys in the warm climate zone we get a very short window to ride and have fun on our bikes here from May to Oct 15th usually and lots of days in that time frame that the weather is not great for a nice ride also.

I am well ahead of the game.

In Alberta to fully put insurance on a 10 grand bike that would cost well over 1 grand a year we only ride for 5 months roughly so I played the odds and am still a winner over the years I have rode. Just makes common sense do do this. If it was a 30 grand bike that would be different.

So repair I will do in near future during the winter months.

Who ever thought I would live after a bike accident and I am not into making who ever gets whats left after I am dead that more wealthy. I am single no kids so it does not matter.

I was speaking of the graphics on the trailer decals is what we call them. There is a small bit missing.

It does run well we only had it started and running for just maybe 2 minutes total since the accident. I know there is lifter noise coming from the engine and I am sure this will go away as it always does in the spring when I first start bike up. It was upside down this is expected I believe. I am sure there is nothing wrong internally with the engine as I see no damage at all to drive train. So I consider it does run well for what bike has gone through it just needs some time to heal also just like me.

It is still an awesome bike and can be made so again so why waste it and throw it away.

Dave,
All in all, things look pretty darn good considering that you crashed at highway speeds.

Look after yourself and don't try to take on too much until you're healed up!

Thanks for sharing. I too have been riding since I was 13, 59 now & still loving it despite risk. I believe experience & wisdom helps, but law of averages catches up too. Thrilled you'll still ride & look forward to fixing it. I understand that & love to ride. I ride daily on I 95 south of DC with full armor. Your sharing helps me stick with wearing it. Bruises & road rash suck from my lesser experiences, so mesh armor makes sense. Your shared knowledge & experience extends our wisdom. Heal quick & ride soon!

Thanks all again. Yes is wrong not to wear leathers and all the safety we can get. You get over confident like I was that day. Nice roads, clear weather and hot day. Hey why not down dress a bit was my thought nothing will happen. Yea that is when it does happen I guess.

Probably in time I will do the same dumb thing again I know it. That is just me a risk taker.

The lifter noise has gone away we had it running in bike shop today for about 10 minutes. They are going to check that the frame is not bent and I am sure it is not all looks great to me by what I can tell. Forks even look great but I willing to pay for another opinion before I start anything.

Yep lucky guy and the luck keeps coming to me.

Got to get to bed surgery on my wrist tomorrow guys.

Just an update after operation. Some great things happen would have taken me months to do the below.

195 lbs not recommended as a weight plan loss method but it works for me. Operation went easy and well and there was no pain other than that blunt needle they use for the intravenous. Newest bandage not a cast on my wrist. Amazing what the doctors can do. Have a plate and some bolts in wrist.

That is one wild drug that knocks you out.

Just an update. It looks nasty is not really this is picture just after they took cast off last week and then they took out the staples which was such an easy process. Well done doctors and nurses.

Hand is getting better every day now still sore can not bend thumb and finger beside thumb well yet and no strength but that will come in time.

I have started removing parts from bike that are damaged and researching where I will get paint done and some custom work. The color is going to change and a few other things will change also on bike. The bike is amazing shape and engine and drive train is undamaged. I am so lucky ever so lucky.

The Russel Day Long seat is going to be recovered in a new look but keeping the padding and the comfort of the seat.

I do not want to let out of the bag what it will end up like that I will do next spring once I put it all back together.

I am doing ok and on with the show now and life and I want to thank you all.
