Update: National Rally

We're in the final planning phases for the upcoming National Rally in Lake George, NY. Only 6 weeks away now. Still a few things to close on, but I want to give you a brief update on where things are.

The Rides: I have two group rides planned. One will ride northwest from Lake George out towards Blue Mountain Lake on Route 28, then north on Route 30 up towards Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, and loop back south down 9N to Lake George. And yes, the plan is to eat lunch at Tail O' the Pup in Ray Brook. The other ride will head off into Vermont, crossing the App Gap (Route 17) towards Waitsfield, south on Route 100 through Granville Notch, back across the mountains on Scenic 125, and then back to Lake George. Both rides are just a bit over 200 miles. The plan is to do the group rides on Tuesday and Thursday, with both rides being done on both days. This will keep the numbers in each ride a little smaller.

Self-Guided Rides: I've planned about a dozen self-guided rides to local attractions for Wednesday, although there is plenty to do right in Lake George Village.

As soon as I'm done with the write-ups on all the rides, we'll be posting them for download, including gpx files. Please note however that the group rides won't be finalized until after they are pre-ridden later this month.

Monday Night Meet and Greet: Plan is to have pizza delivered to the motel. Details and pricing shortly.

End of Rally Dinner: We'll be having an end of rally dinner at the Barnsider Restaurant. They have a large tent which we have reserved for our group for Thursday dinner. The menu is being finalized (buffet style) and we expect to post more information on this, including the cost, later this coming week.

We are planning to head out to the Lake George area a little later this month to pre-ride the rides, plan rest breaks and lunch stops, finalize the pizza for Monday night and the details around the dinner, and insure that everything is in order at the motel.

And one last thing . . . the deadline for reserving a room is coming up fast. There are only about two weeks left. After the deadline (June 23rd), any unreserved rooms will be released to the public, and will cost about $250. a night.

Looking forward to seeing everyone shortly.

I have to fly to Denmark tomorrow Via Halifax,Toronto,Reykjavik Iceland Copenhagen and finally Aalborg. I'm worried about an extended trip which may put my rally plans in jeopardy. Hope to be home by the 1st week in July .

Rasta just a big screw up. When I get there, probably be there a few days, then sail across the Atlantic to Canadian Waters. When in Canadian Waters they will direct for shrimp. When they are loaded I will be dropped off in Newfoundland and fly home. They should be able to process 40 -50 ton per day. Shrimp are ready for the market upon landing. They usually carry a Japanese technician who over sees products produced for Japan. The crew make outrageous money on these factory freezer trawlers . Debriefing then a free man. When I want a quick trip it's always long. When I want a long trip it's always short,Murphy's Law. Hope it all works out.

218 miles to the very western border of Maine.
If you want fresh lobster you will need to go to the eastern border, considerably further.

I'd like to make a trip to Maine, too. Lobster or not. I want to add it to my ride map.

I might have to have one flown in then..
Naw, that won't be the same. Gotta use a Kawhead scheme which always guarantees satisfaction.

Lobster Cove, York, Maine (?) - 216 mi 4 1/2 hrs with highways or 206 mi 5 hrs off highway. 12 or so hour round trip for lunch seems reasonable to me .

Bentley's Biker Saloon north of Portland Maine has lobster dinners at a reasonable price.
