Bad wind in starter?

Ok, over the past year or so, once in a blue moon I go to start the nomad. It turns over cple times, then gage light goes out like no power. Then it starts but I lost trip info and clock flashing 1:00.
Any thoughts? In thinking might be bad wind in starter.

You may need a new battery, that does happen when the battery is low.

That was just happening to me. Then one morning it wouldn't start. Changed the battery and everything is fine.

You have been given great advice so far. The clock and trip meter resetting usually happens because of loose battery terminals or a bad battery. Being that it has been happening to you for a year, I would check the battery terminals for looseness or corrosion.
How old is the battery?

Replace the battery before you get stranded out somewhere.

Battery only a year old.
Battery connections tight.
Was gonna check all ground connections.

Usually on a tender since I only ride it once or twice a week.

Have the battery tested. A year old battery can still be defective

Load test the battery even if it is only a year old. If it passes, clean the connections good before retightening. What you are describing is a tell tail sign of a weak battery or poor battery connections on a Nomad.

sounds like everyone is on the same page...if u find corrosion esp at bat cable ends split the insulation a little to see if it goes up further ... wheather it does or not soak the cables in a cup of strong soda water [baking soda] until it is clean and bright then shrink wrap or tape insulation ... that hidden corrosion can cause lots of trouble .. with the batt out u have room to dip a few inches of cables in a cup ... if the wires look damaged get new ones

Mine has occasionally been doing the same thing for about 9 months. Probably dirty battery connections but could be the battery. I know from past experience that, as others have already said, a resetting clock and odometer when starting is a low voltage/current flow indication...usually a bad battery warning. I really need to quit procrastinating and get this fixed before it leaves me stranded.

I just re-read your post and realized that the answer to your question is yes, it could possibly be the starter. A starter can get whats called a "flat spot" on it where when the rotor is in a certian postion it will not rotate when power is applied. I can remember a couple of times way back in the good ol' days (high school) when a friends car starter would have a flat spot and wouldn't spin we would rock the car with the manual transmission in gear and starter engaged. This would force the starter to rotate to a position where it would spin when power was applied and start the engine. Then again, that was about a million years ago. Maybe they make starters better these days.
I would still clean the battery connections prior to buying a new starter.

Hit it directly on the thingamajig with some left handed vise grips. If that doesn't work , sell it to me for $1 .

I went to the Deltran lithium Ion 480 cranking amps 3 years ago. No more do I have the symptoms you described.
