I didn't know people were doing it for a wide tire look? Thought it had more to do with the cost and longevity.

My main incentive was traction. Some other plusses were not noticed untill riding with a GYTT 205/60-16, especially in heavy rain/standing water.
I doubt that CJ worries about that very much.
