In Utah, don't know about CO, anyone can use the force necessary to overcome the force used against them; and they can do it any time, anywhere.

So if somebody slaps you, you can't blow their head off, especially if you are bigger than them. But if you are a petite woman, or a juvenile and they guy is a stranger in your house and comes towards you in a way that makes you fearful....it takes a lot of force to overcome what is coming at you.

That same thing applies here too Dan. And if the situation in CO. happen here in NC. I'm sure the guy that killed the other one would have been investigated as well.
One thing that balances that; in CO, your young daughter can be found suffocated in your basement and a ransom note can be left on your stair case in your wife's hand writing, as long as you're rich and have influence the police will "Play Ball" with you. I wouldn't doubt the same is so for NC.. :)

Over here you can't legally use deadly force if someone is attempting to break into your house. Once they do enter it is a whole new ball game. I've heard from a couple of people that were being harrassed or stalked by someone that law enforcement told them that once the predator is ordered to stay away and they are attempting to break in, shoot them and then drag them into the doorway. They then wouldn't be prosecuted but there is always a remote possibility the homeowner could be found liable in a civil suit filed by the scum bag's family. Jury's down here are not very sympathetic to home invaders.

Isn't Colorado where "investigators" have a notorious history of bungling investigations? Seems to me they were in the press some years ago..... hmmmm.

Oh yeah... I remember... something about a young girl murdered in her home. Evidence was contaminated/destroyed errantly and some such nonsense. Apparently the authorities claimed they were under-manned; and inexperienced at such horrendous crimes -- because crimes such as that just simply didn't occur in Colorado.

If I am correct -- I believe Texas has the most liberal gun laws. I believe one CAN kill an intruder. In fact; I believe there was a case within the last few years where a person went to investigate his neighbor's house and found an intruder. He shot and killed the person and was eventually was released without charges. ...something about protecting property even if it wasn't his. I like that idea to some extent. I would just hate to be a meter-reader in Texas though. Might not work out if you are new on the route.
