I don't think that is a bad idea. Certainly something to consider.
With that said last year's National was held in Arkansas.
And although attendance was high, around 250 people,
I would say that less than 25% were VBA members.
Perhaps the fact that it was a combined rally kept some members from attending.
I'm sure there are many reasons.
But in this case a more central location wasn't enough to get a strong showing.

Just a thought, why don't we have a split national. It seem people from the east don't want to go west and people from the west don't want to go east and let associate members help with the planning. I seem like it would be to our advantage to utilize the best people for the job with the no how for planning events. Of course they would half to be a couple of weeks apart just in case you wanted to attend both events.

That was why we did the Redwood Rally in 2011 when the National was in Maggie Valley. It's not that we don't want to go, but more like time constraints that don't allow us to go. I would love to go to New York (Not the City) but that would be 11 to 12 days off. Both Krystal and I can't get that amount off in one piece. Those type of rides will have to be a retirement bucket list.

As you go west from me then it is even more time. A California to Lake George trip is pushing 3000 miles one way on the shortest route.

The length of time off seem to be a problem for everybody. I plan on going to New York and hope it works out. I'll be trailering, there's no way my wife and I can make it there and back in 7 day riding our bikes. I don't want to miss a chance of rinding in the New England States. I also would like to go west, hopefully the 19 national will be in Utah, Idaho or California.

I've thought about riding home, but I'd need nearly 3 weeks not to rush it. That's a lot of vacation time.

Taking into account accommodation, meals, fuel ect,how does the cost of shipping the bike, and then flying in compare ? Maybe just one way might be worth considering.

Unless you are staying 3+ weeks, fly in and hire a bike.
