Good Morning; 35 and light snow, we received a couple inches of fresh snow overnight, I'd better go clear the driveway.

Good morning 16* dark, the snow is glistening in the path of the street light.
Should be mostly sunny and a high of 20*. I should go for a walk today.
Have a great day!

Good Morning; 19 and blue skies today. I have the day off, so I'll see what kind of trouble I can get myself into.

Morning 29f, it's a heat wave! Hope this week goes better than last. I was up north at the cottage. In between clearing snow all most every day, last week I Blew a belt on the snowblower Monday, fixed it Tuesday, melted a piston on one of the snowmobiles Wednesday, stripped the motor down Thursday, Friday night my daughter broke her wrist skating, Sunday something let go in the drive train of the tractor while plowing.
This week is damage control week. Ordered the parts for the snowmobile, been driving my daughter to appointments, grocery shopping for her and at some point I will head back up north to look at the tractor and put the snowmobile back together. Who says retirees have time on their hands.

Thanks Gerry, Yeah it's all just minor crap that adds up. Except the daughters injury, she may need surgery, but it could have been worse. These days, you hear of people getting head injuries just from falling.

Make sure you find out what caused the piston to melt down or it will happen again.

Actually both cylinders leaned out, but only one had damage to the piston. The cylinder cleaned up nice with muriatic acid, no scoring.
I'm leaning toward carbs icing up as it was really cold and lots of deep powder snow, also it restarted after sitting in the garage for a couple of hours. I did the carbs in the fall and re did them again yesterday, no sign of gummed up jets. Both carb boots have some cracks but not all the way through, I have new ones coming any way. Could be a crank seal, but I'm doubtful as both sides leaned out. I'll be spraying starting fluid around looking for a leak and checking the plugs a lot for the first little while.

Check the plugs soon after you get it back together, plus look at the piston tops with a flashlight through the spark plug hole, if it is running lean, install a couple sizes richer jets.
If its a crank seal its usually very hard to start the engine and keep it running.
