Let's give the poll until Tuesday, May 6th at noon, CDT. At that time I'll look at the results and act accordingly.

Ok here's mine uno centavo.

When Trip started this forum I'm sure he didn't have a clue as to it's success. In the beginning it was just a few old clowns having fun.

It's growth is surprising and we can all agree the melting pot of personalities is harder than ever to deceipher who's who. The "Get Togethers" we are planning along with a national get together I'm sure amazes some of the old timers here. Who'd a thunk it???

My concern is that with this ever increasing crowd of members I wouldn't want any opportunity of KawaNOW to be even more than what it is by some of the objectional language and especially some of the graphic porn some use from time to time. One never knows who's peeking in these forums that could do this site some unknown good? Potential Sponsors? Maybe someone from Ma Kaw who sees that we take mods seriously and want our opinion on what changes need to be done in future models maybe? That list of "potentials" is out there gang. Trust me...

I know we have a section for "Adults only" but that disclaimer doesn't lesson the impact it would have to Mr/Ms. Opportunity whom might be lurking. I always thought that section was an eye sore to KawaNOW and I rarely go in there. It would be no different if someone started a section for "Pedophiles" and defended it by saying, "if ya don't like it don't look!" To me at least it detracts from the professionalism that Trip has shown in his creation and management of KawaNOW.

I've thought in the past that if this site really took off and one day someone out there was in a position to do Trip and us some good that one peek in some of the forums that have really objectional posting would prohibit them from getting involved. I would understand that happening and it would be an unfortunate thing.

If Trip and other members don't care about where the future takes us then no need to worry about missed potential opportunities like the above. Just a thought.

I think there is a big difference between pedophiles and bad language. Not the best analogy. One can defend free speech, but one cannot defend pedophilia... Unless of course you belong to that manbla group or whatever it is. I submit for summary judgement (and execution) on that situation.

Ok, here's my opinion on this.

I totally agree with what Brad said above.

As far as the Biker Babe and XXX threads, both of them could be deleted. When you get right down to it there are plenty of places on the Web to more than satisfy that interest.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy looking at pretty nude women as much as the next guy.

However, I don't believe that the KawaNow Forum would be in the least bit diminished if all the nudity and porn was removed.

That's my two cents worth.

Geeze, Trip. I never thought my one little comment would unleash such a storm of debate. I hope you're not ticked that I brought it up. (That goes for all of you as well.)

Having modded at MCUSA for some years I can categorically state that there is no foolproof way around that problem. This will eventually happen again and again no matter what you do because some people just love to make trouble. The grammar nanny program can't prevent a determined malefactor from swearing (though it may deter the less creative and persistent ones somewhat.) and as Vixen has clearly shown, a vulgar message is easily possible even with the nanny program running.

Human intervention is the only real solution. If you need more mods to keep the lid on things, you need more mods. Mods need the power to ban people instantly. That's the only way to interdict a determined attacker. When the took that power away form the mods at MCUSA, the job became impossible, which is the main reason I don't mod there anymore.

This is a point I totally agree with as I do the same. I wouldn't get fired, but my bosses wouldn't like it either. They've been so nice to me that I really want to keep them happy.

But in the end it all boils down to the regular members being willing to behave themselves, and the new members being guided by the others to do the same, and to the mods policing the rare (but inevitable) shock-monkeys off the board.

Cadd, me's think you might be overstating your impact a wee bit.

I concurr with your thoughts 100% however.

Ponch, I wasn't "comparing" the two topics, I was pointing out that smut is smut, all types of porn legal and not legal, whether it's accidentally viewed at work or public computers. It makes a negative impact no matter what the reason. That was the point I was making. I guess I shouldn't assume some get it.

Honestly, BD, I share your enthusiasm, but I don't see a little profanity as being a big stumbling block to progress.

I don't either, because I don't come here for pornography. To me it's about the motorcycles and the people who ride them and fix them and enjoy them: not about the celebration of some anti-social lifestyle or alternative culture.

The gist of my original post (which evidently started all this debate) was: "If we're going to allow porno, why bother to censor words like sh!t and d@mn?"

That thought was in no way intended to either support or denounce the inclusion of either porn or profanity on this board as it stands now. I can accept, and do accept what exists here and now. If I didn't I wouldn't be here. I was just complaining about a minor nuisance and the disparity in logic that would seem to indicate its elimination.

Well, please remember that I'm a newbie here. This issue may well have been debated repeatedly in the past and I wouldn't know, because I don't have time to read everything that's ever been posted here.

I get the feeling that you've made some coments in this vein before, though, eh?

I've had others PM me in the past about the porn on KawaNOW and what BD and others have said about it makes sense. You never know when someone of importance is logging in and viewing. But the main reason some have asked me about it is because they feel that KawaNOW really is not the place for porn, it's a place to get all kinds of Nomad info and comradery. I tend to agree.

BD is right in the fact that KawaNOW has grown more than I ever thought it would and maybe we need to exude a more professional image for the future.

With that in mind...I'd like to make a proposal....what if we got rid of the porn on the Lighter Side (in other words just keep it to jokes, misc stuff, like it is only without the nudity) and what if I edit the censorship to only censor the really bad words like F**K, P***Y, G*D**N and a few others......

This might appease everyone for the time being and present KawaNOW in a better light.

What do you think?

Trip
