NCR MV Rally Ride Plan

I just have a road rash on my left arm which makes it tender, and sore spots on both knees, a sore spot on my left foot and heel, and a bruise on my inner right knee.

But something happened that shows us the true picture of a Kawanow forum participant and member. Last evening I was offered a new front fender, was given a part that had secured the right mirror to the handlebars, and this morning was given a new left crashbar. And no one would except any money! The only thing any one wanted was that I should return the favor whenever I saw someone in need. I'll tell you one thing for sure, our forum has something you don't find just anywhere!

NCR MV Rally Ride Plan

We all were glad to hear Dave was basically okay. From what I heard, some other riders he didn't know helped him out at the crash site -- which was great of them to do so.

The fact KawaNOW members helped him out even more is unbelievable. Great group of people.

We rode the Dragon today. Saw one bike down (not any of us or KawaNOW). Today we covered a lot of ground on our ride and saw 3-bikes down in total for the day. We saw a few others yesterday also.

The roads here in MV offers its fair-share of challenges if you don't pay attention and keep the throttle to a minimum. The sharp turns around here mean "sharp-turns"!!!

Most of the NCR members went on the ride today... and we got caught in an extremely powerful thunderstorm... and didn't get back to the hotel till nearly 9:30PM EST. We were supposed to have returned by around 5-6PM. Wind shear took out a lot of trees. One road we were on was blocked by a fallen tree. We were able to use the ditch and get the bikes around it; but anyone in a car wasn't going anywhere for a long, long time.

One more day of riding the area... before the final rally dinner tomorrow night.

Gibby, Coot, and myself went another direction this afternoon. We generally ran up and down the Great Smoky Mt Parkway. We kept it at a relatively slow pace, enjoying the scenery and many of the turnouts. We enjoyed a good lunch at a restaurant in the park.

On the way back we were pelted with 3/4 inch hail. Man, it really hurt. All we could do is get off and run for cover. After it passed we had to wait awhile to give it a chance to melt off the highway. Then we still had to be careful of all the green leaves that the hail had knocked off the trees onto the highway.

Even with the hail storm, it was a very enjoyable ride. A lot of fun with a couple of new friends. We got back to the hotel just before the rain came down in buckets!

Just backing up what Glwilson stated the roads here are awesome but if you are not on your game they will reach out and bite you. Rode with the NCR group yesterday what an adventure. The Tail of the Dragon was fun but nothing compared to what the Cherahula Skyway offered. We had sunshine, clouds, fog, hail, high winds, heavy rain, trees across the road & temperature changes of 25 to 30 degrees. After riding home in steady rain for over 4hrs we all made it back to base safely. 6 bikes, 9 people a great testament to some good patient riders & passengers.

Dave,

Be careful. You may have lost some skin but you gained some knowledge....and some friends.

Glad it wasn't worse.

It wasn't the dealer after all... so to them I have to apologize...

Let's just say it was "operator-error"... LOL!!

A piece of tie-down strapping got caught-up in the belt. So... everytime the wheel went around it made a clicking sound -- very loud.

Also it caused some slack in the belt... giving the impression there was a primary drive problem.

As it turns out; it was an easy fix and no damage. They inspected the bike and belt; then readjusted it and off I went... with what little pride I had left.

My dear friends here from our NCR group rode over the dealer and waited for them to fix the bike so we could ride Tuesday. I felt really bad about them waiting for me; but they insisted. A great group of people.

Ultimately we got to ride on starting at around noon on Tuesday so the day wasn't entirely shot.

I however am still taking the "heat" for what I did....
