Decision made on second thoughts

Rick, sorry to hear you will not be making it to Maggie Valley. I had hoped that we would finally met in person, but certainly heath and work issues come first. The rest of us Canucks will tighten up the ranks and drink your share of the beer, so don't worry about that part, it's the least we can do.
Maybe we will meet at the next National. Take care my freind.

...just thinking Ricky. ;)
I read this whole thread.

First the health problem. That really sucks and I feel your pain. I have a condition called RSD that developed from an injury in the war. (google it and have fun reading what it does to a person) I take lots of pain pills and even have a spinal cord stimulator implanted to help with the pain so i dont have to take so many pills.

Never let a physical condition impair your ability to live life. Once you stop "living" it's all downhill from there. My father had Parkinsons and when he stopped living he was in a nursing home and dead within a couple years. I dealt with it as well when I got injured and went into a pretty bad depression.

I deal with something like workers comp because I was a contractor for the department of defense when i got injured. Sucks big time especially when it comes to vacations as well as a host of other problems i wont go into here.

As the person above said. Fly in and use a demo bike for a ride. Hell fly in you can use my bike for a days worth of riding and still attend the event. I will go sit by a stream or river and read a book that day. I didn't plan on riding all the group rides anyway so I lose nothing. Will certainly be cheaper then paying the gas to ride in or trailer in. I may be new to the forum but this national is going to be fun and I cant wait for it.

The offer is open if you can make it.

You're not kidding TC!!!
But As much as I'd like to be there,....what seems to have been missed by some is that the "workers compensation" has said that if I continue missing time from my "back to work" physio program they "may stop covering" {paying me} my claim for compensation for my injury.

I am missing my physio now because of the shingles.....OK?
and the physio company that "workers compensation"
{the insurance co.} sent me to for a prog. to help me to rtn. to work sent me home and said not to come back "till I was better". Now ! the "workers compensation" is threatening to "cut me off " or "may stop covering" me.
How much sense does that make??? This is the deciding fact that won't allow me to make the ride.
I had decided that I would make the journey to M.V.. I have taken time off from this "back to work" prog. on two previous occasions during "spring break" with no problems. So I thought I better call these people again and let them know that I have vacations booked and I'll be away for a few weeks. {They didn't know,.. and I wasn't going to tell them I was doing a motorcycle ride.}
I was taken by surprise for sure. I agree with you "canedriver" that you can't let an illness stop you from living.
I hope this helps to clear things up about why I'm not making it to the rally. I was going to ride through any pain from the shingles, decided it would be good to spend some time with "rickyboy"....The decision to go, not go,...was taken away from me. Kind'a.

I understand completely about the workers compensation problems. It's why i said I wouldn't go into them here as it would fill a book. Lets just say if you knew everything I was dealing with on my disability you would be writing congressman about one of the reasons we have a deficit problem I feel your pain on that.

Sorry you will miss the national and best of luck on dealing with workers comp and the shingles both of which are extremely painful in their own ways.

I am thinking about riding out to the west coast rally so maybe I will see you there. A lot depends on how the bike runs to national and how i am feeling the closer that rally comes. 3200 miles one way sucks. Really should move that west coast a little closer

The National is being held on the "East Coast" this year. Because the last one was on the "West Coast". The next National will be in Labrador in August 2013. That way everyone, even BD, will be able to attend. :)

Labrador?, why don't you just say the north pole, and then we will all have a long ride to get there and no one can whine? ::)

LOL on Labrador!
Norm, we could bring the Labrador beer for our Southern friends... :)
Sorry to hear about your situation Ricky, like the rest of the Canucks & fellow Kawanow Riders, I was looking forward to meeting you.
Best of luck & take care!
Cheers

Labrador - great idea we would have to go in the summer; what day is that? ;) Last time I was in Sept Îles and Labrador City the snow on the runway was over the top of the DC-9 we were in and it was -40C/F - it is the same no matter what scale you use.

Norm this would really show those southern boys what the north is really like.

I thought someone might like that location..?? Guess not. I'm going to think this location over again, but first, I think I'll take a nap.

Rickyboy,

Sounds like Canadian insurance companies screw you as bad as ours down here. Course, ours would have PI's laying in the bush's taking pictures of you getting on and off your bike to prove why they weren't going to pay your claims.
