Toll roads

CJ... one last comment. It was barely mentioned here...

Watch out for the oil on the pavement near and at the toll-booths -- especially when stoppping. You literally could slip and have a "moment".

Because the toll roads are the most direct/quickest route. I have just never had to deal with them before and was curious about the procedure.
CJ, I travel that route to visit family... the toll charge is $1.50 at each gate, so $3 total. As said before, watch the oil spots at the booth. It can get slick. Also, watch your speed coming up to the toll booths, the Highway Patrol guys like to "hang out" in those areas ready to get speeders. If you let me know the route you're planning, I may be able to help you get around the toll roads, or tell you which ones to take.

Thanks. I do have a GPS and can route around them if I decide to do that.

I just wanted to make sure I understood the procedure so I didn't get to the toll booth and make a complete doofus out of myself or get in trouble with the OK State police.

Once you get to Tulsa, you'll have another toll road to get to Oklahoma City. It's a bit more expensive due to high traffic and more use. I don't get that way too much, so I don't remember the charge. I want to say $4.25 one way. I'm not really sure where the rally is, but if you're going east to west, I'd stay on I-40 as that would be the quickest route and it's free.

But, if you do come this way through Tulsa, let me know and I might be able to meet up with you. Another suggestion, if you're in this area, take Rt. 66 from Tulsa to OKC. It's a nice ride with some good stops along the way. The Rock Cafe in Stroud, the Round Barn in Arcadia, and Pop's convenient store/restaurant just west of Arcadia is a great stop.

I have my reasons for taking this route. It may sound kinda corny, but I haven't been in that part of the country since 1978 and I am retracing a road trip I took. Just a trip down memory lane.

That's not corny at all. If you are close, you might as well do it while you have the chance. I'd be happy to ride along with you if the time and my schedule permits.
