Well I heard back from SMT and they can make me the needed hub and rotor to add the second caliper back on. One problem, the PO had the caliper mounting points removed from the fork leg and I never noticed. He left the fender mounts on and I just overlooked the fact that they weren't there. I'm looking into upgrading the stock 2 piston caliper with something better now, any input would be appreciated?

Good news is if you order a wheel from SMT they can either set you up for single caliper or dual, whichever you prefer.

Maybe you could replace the fork tube.

I could do that if I can't find a caliper that would bolt up.

Oh I've been wanting to do this for a long time and have contacted several machining companies. If I could get it done at a reasonable price, I'd buy a new front wheel tomorrow. I'm in the process negotiating with . Their list price with dual rotors is $1410.

I think the SMT Classic front wheel would look great.

Tubes suck and that is what you'll get with most spoked wheels.

It's not like they had amazing brakes to begin with.

I plan on putting a 21" wheel on my vaquero when I have the extra funds. I love the picture of that green nomad with the 21" wheel, looks sharp. As far as the right rotor being removed on the green nomad, it's not uncommon for owners to remove the right side rotor when running a custom wheel to show off the wheel better. But as someone said, definitly lose some braking ability.

I would HIGHLY recommend dual rotors if you get the wheel.

The Vulcan 800 had a 21" spoked front wheel. I am sure it would be relatively cheap through a junk parts distributor.

Agreed. Spokes aren't fun. I don't think it has anything to do with the weight of the bike. The classic is only 70lbs lighter than the Nomad.

Just this afternoon I had to take my daughter to school on my bike and as I was leaving, I heard what sounded like a backfire. A guy on a yamaha VStar had his rear tire blow. It deflated very quickly and he barely made it to the side of the road. I offered him help, but he said he had it under control. His bike had spokes and in his case tubes.
