Every day I learn something new.
At 59, all my life I've only heard the expression "Jerry rigged" and assumed it had something to do with Germany and WWII. The term "Jury-rigged" was new to me till just now:

Of the three expressions, “jury-rigged” is by far the oldest, with roots going back to the early 17th century, when a “jury-mast” was a temporary mast put up to replace one that was broken or carried away, according to the Oxford English Dictionary.
The earliest published reference in the OED for “jury-rigged” is in a 1788 travel book: “The ships to be jury rigged: that is, to have smaller masts, yards, and rigging, than would be required for actual service.”
The writer used the expression as a passive verb. To “jury-rig” now means to improvise or do something in a makeshift way.
The first citation for “jerry-built” is in an 1869 glossary: “Jerry-built, slightly, or unsubstantially built.” The origin of the expression is unknown, but it’s thought to be influenced by the use of the word “jerry” in English dialect to mean defective. The expression still refers to something that’s shoddily made.
The language sleuth Hugh Rawson, in his book Devious Derivations, lists eight of the more imaginative theories about the origin of “jerry-built,” including suggestions that “jerry” refers to the biblical walls of Jericho, the prophet Jeremiah, or German soldiers.

Still yet, if you have some screaming chithead, yapping his feelings are hurt, that trumps historical reference, and honest discussion.
I've never had to opportunity to travel beyond the boarders of the South where racial harmony abounds. I think I've heard nearly every ethnic slur known, but Rig and Jig, are new to me.
We can't use Jerry-rig because you might be thinking something else.

Those Kong toys are super tough. I bought Rocky one 2 years ago and he still can't destroy it. He had a rawhide bone gone in 3 hours, a Frisbee in 15 min. and those bandanas the vet puts on him don't last the ride home.

It was pretty funny.

They are pretty tough toys. Unfortunately my oldest German Shepherd has destroyed every Kong toy that we buy including the balls. They do have a lifetime warranty and the stores will replace any Kong product destroyed by a pet with the receipt.

Now About "Jerry Rigging".."Jury Rigging", "N-Word Rigging"...It's been My Experience, that the Mother Of All Rigging...Is "Coon Ass Engineering" (for those instantly see some sort of ethnic slur in that title, be it known..it does not refer to color...and those who are Coon Ass'es --Are Proud To Be So !!)..Most of -you- would know them as "CAJUN'S"
