Language Checker Poll
I personally choose to post using language without profanity. I am a big boy, but I also feel there are other ways to express yourself.
But the playground... It says "offensive language" ... should be wide open. My opinion.

Language Checker Poll
Are we really having this discussion?
I don't think anyone was forced in any way to join this forum...... if i see something on TV that offends me, I change the channel. This reminds me of the city slicker that builds a house in the country downwind from a chicken ranch. He then complains that it smells like chicken shiit and starts a petition to have the chicken ranch closed down. bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep!! |

Nico's got a point here, but really this discussion isn't about whether we should or shouldn't allow vulgar language. It's only about whether we should turn off the electronic censor and let people control their own language, or leave it on and have the computer decide what can be posted.

I don't really have a preference. Self regulated or computer generated, if I get offended, I just move on.
Do what you do Trip.

It would be better to control ourselves then to be controlled buy a outside source. If it became so bad I just would not enter.

Language Checker Poll
As always, I'll give my 2 centavos worth on the language censoring issue...........and the following is only my opinion and is not meant to sway how anyone else feels.......
In the past, I've had a few users ask me privately about calming down the censor. While it is a little too strict on a few words, I feel, it's right on when it comes to the heavier words. When I saw the post left by Caddmann, I felt it might be a good time to issue a poll and take the pulse from the KawaNOW masses on the subject. Whatever the majority wants in this case, I'll be glad to do, but we might keep in mind a couple of things....... First....I'm not worried about any current users, but if all censoring is taken off, there might be some users join in the future that might take advantage of the situation. Do any of you remember a past user named NomadCouples? He didn't get his way concerning thread hijacking and went ballistic on the KawaNOW board, leaving derogatory messages in almost every thread. I just happened to be logged on when he started his tyraid and I was able to cut him off. What if he started leaving foul language everywhere? Second.....No matter how mature we think we are -and- if I take off all censoring, there's a strong possibility that some situation will arise that will force me to reinstate some kind of language censoring in the future. History has shown that some kind of censoring has always been needed...and that is true on other boards as well. I log in from work quite a bit, and although I've learned not to go into the Lighter Side board for fear of displaying certain pics, I have always had confidence that I can log into any of the other boards without displaying any bad words or pics. If censoring is taken off totally, I may loose that confidence. If the majority wants it taken off completely, I'll be glad to try it out and see how it goes. Trip
