Skiman, the popcorn thing ............ as I see it has to be something cooking off...

I bet that's wrong. Sometimes a pipe cooling down ticks and that might sound like pop corn. I ain't got no ideer!

Much louder than a pipe cooling down. Popcorn was more because its bouncing around all over the place. More of a metal to metal sound than a popping.

I hope it isn't anything metal in the combustion chambers..... I have seen first hand what happens to screws, bolts, nuts, and washers in there.

That 14 Ah battery has me bugged... Someone installed a sort of incorrect battery, and that just gets under my skin. People who do that do other strange things too.

Of course a dealer who wanted the OEM battery might be who did that.. Dealer crapolla happens..

This is one of those treads where other posters on line are not going to be of much use.... probably.... We can't hear, see and feel...

I don't know the answer to your problem, but I'm not sure I'd run that until you get it figured out. I'm not terribly mechanically inclined (tools are NOT my friends) but that sure doesn't sound right. If you have one of those little extendable magnets, you might try fishing inside one of the cylinders if you take a plug out. If there's something small (and metallic) in there, maybe it'll catch on the magnet and you can pull it out.

It sounds like it runs alright aside of the clicking/banging around noise so would have to agree with mac and skiman. Not likely to have a loss of compression or leakage.

The stethescope that mac suggested to isolate the area of the noise may be a good idea although as monkeyman said.......probably not a good idea to run it too much as is. Got to wonder if it's something up top or maybe something came loose lower and is getting whacked on rotation by the clutch assy or something.

What happens when you pull in the clutch. Does it get better/worse or stay the same? (sorry if you already answered this).

I listened 3 times, but I can't tell nuthin' At least i could see when you reached for the throttle. I just can't help at this distance.

If it were mine i would listen real hard to that engine. With tools, a steel rod and a tech's stethoscope. You can locate areas on any engine with these tools for sounds.

I could guess all day, but that would just make me mostly wrong. It would just add to the problem as well.

Kinda sounds like it does it after you come off the throttle. It makes me think chain, like when gassing it the chain is under strain and tight, but off the throttle and the slack catches up and the chain bounces.

But then there are 4 chains in the motor, 2 cam chains and 2 to get to the waterpump.

But it is almost surely something that has some slack that can be taken up.

I don't think it is something in the combustion chamber, lose screw, bit of a broken ring etc, as it would do some damage fast and or get blown out the exhaust pipe.

A stethoscope to pin point the area would be helpful as has been suggested.
Also start with some easy stuff, like unscrewing the spark plug tubes looking for the cam chains hitting them. Maybe check carefully the heat shield on the exhaust pipes, one might be cracked and vibrating.

The battery that some sites had listed for the 06 vulcan nomad was the wrong part number. If you ordered by make and model they would ship the 14 Ah. the previous owner said he ordered a battery for the bike and that's what he got. I only figured it out by reading on forums. I know the bike can't get diagnosed online, I just wanted to start posting and meeting people. Everyone seems to be real helpful on this site, a good group of people. One way or another I'll get this thing fixed. I'm out of town now so I can't do much for a while. Hopefully when I get back I'll know something. Thanks everyone.

Almost sounds like an ignition arc 2 plugs per cyl so there wouldn't be a miss
It would explain the randomness of the noise.
Just another guess ..lol

I thought of something like that also, just don't know why it would only do it on de-accel. Hard to tell from a video, but anyway another easy to eliminate cause. run the bike in the dark, look for arcing around the plug leads and boots. Pull the plugs look for cracks in the porcelain etc.
