Fuel economy

Yeah, I have a 4 gallon one on the bike. Daryl has a 3 gallon on his. He sent me some pictures of his set up and some pointers. We both have '99 carbed bikes, so it was pretty easy to get it hooked up, simple splice into the fuel line near the fuel pump. I have a valve under my left leg that I turn when I run out of the rear tank, switch the front one on and continue the ride. Makes it nice on long trips and IBA rides.

It all depends upon your throttle hand. The best mileage I get is generally in the mountains on roads that are twisty so you can't run real hard. Worst tank, following a semi on the interstate. We were hauling at 90-95 mph.
In the mountains it's not onl becuase you are going slower, but also the O2 sensor decreases fuel used due to low oxygen at higher elevations.

O2 sencor? What exhaust is it you have, or is that the new PC III bit?

My best with the 06 nad was 48 MPG's, but a CT changed that to be 42/44.

I run right side only Cadman, a TFI, and V&H baggers with their stock baffels and probably no glass packing anymore. I just have never messed about with the baffels, but i can't think any glass is left by now.

I run full syn oils in the engine and the rear gear sets. I also run desert dawg engine guard covers which seem to stream line the bike.

I don't ride all that fast and do not take off hard very often. 99% of my riding is 2 up and combined we weigh about 300 pounds, and then there is always some tools and gear that stay on the bike.

I tend to lug around in 5th gear to some very low RPM's but will down shift to get moving when I want.

I almost never use brakes, and when I do only to stop, and that is at a near stopped speed.

When I see a seldom red light ahead i tend to slow to never hit that light still red, and i really don't care what anyone behind me thinks about that.

For one thing I am smarter since I am ahead of any dummies behind me , and they can't run that red anyway. Probably I save then fuel too.

However I will Brake Sharply for Bear and Moose, which isn't fast enough once so far. ::)

I can too. ;)

On the Nomad I had I would get 35-37 most of the time, worst was 32 and best was 40-43 and that was on non-ethanol fuel. Bike was stock.

My guess is they don't go much faster than 60 and they probably are lighter/smaller people. I would also bet they weren't using anything with ethanol in it. Either that, or they are calculating or measuring the MPG incorrectly.

My average MPG 73 fill ups is 38 mpg stock everything cobra fuel processor settings 3/6/0.

The best I ever got was 2 up fully loaded all interstate 42 mpg.

I just ordered Chuckster's dual intake kit. Anxious to see what that mod does to my MPG.

I don't have the gas slip anymore, but one day in all on ride apx 7 miles for here i filled the Nad up, rode 199 miles to first flicker of the yellow light, and in just 1 mile pulled into the same station to get more gas.

The yellow light was not on steady, and I believe I saw it's very first flicker, because i was wondering if it was broken.

With out a doubt i could have ridden well into a solid yellow light, but I simply won't due to wanting a cool running fuel pump.

Most of my riding style is called smooth, no sudden nuthin, kinda like the way my grannie would like me to ride. I don't do that for her since she's dead, but I am so cheap on gas I squeek.

At least in my case letting the engine breath better and ADDING gas to the mix got me apx 10% more power when I want it, and better MPG's. I expected ore power, but it was a shock to get better MPG's.

I am getting roughly 39 mpg this season so far it has been pretty cool up here in eastern Ontario. Bike is all stock except for a k&n air filter in its stock location and debaffled. Bike has 75,000 km bought it used approx. 15.000 km ago. I am thinking about changing the plugs (unknown when they where replaced) Not a big fan of the locale dealer here so going to look at past posts for plug recommendations from other source other then dealer. One other question has anybody put on a set of pipes and not installed a fuel processor would love the sound but have a hard time to justify 1000$ at the end of the day for it to sound nice! I would much rather spend 500$ on a good seat at least i would get comfort for my money and last time i looked my ass was not getting any smaller LOL!!!

I just bought the NGK plug that is listed in the owners manual. I bought it at my local Auto Zone parts store. Most auto parts stores carry or can order NGK plugs.

CND I just replaced my plugs with the NGK 5531 (DPR6EA-9). Gapped at 35. Took less than 15 minutes, simple.

I had approx 18,000 miles on the plugs, bike was running fine, probably didn't need it but I did it anyhow. All stock except debaffle. No fuel processor.

Good luck...but you won't need it.

Over the 3+ years and 51,980 miles I owned my Nomad, my average MPG was 37.27. Highest was 50.72, lowest was 23.09.

50.72 05/04/08 coming down from the Mogollon Rim to Mesa AZ, about a 6,000' elevation drop over 100 miles.

23.09 6/15/09 from Chugwater, WY to Wheatland, WY on the way to Custer. Pulling a trailer and doing 80+ MPH on I-25.
