True, but I don't say the 1600 Nomad is what everybody wishes they had.

Now Tim.... Do you know how many PM's I get from members secretly considering buying a Harley? More than you can imagine.

I think we can all recognize the two types of people as a cheap marketing tool. I'd rather help my son with his education costs, and purchase a bike with as much value for the buck as I can ... What ever you ride .. ENJOY !!

While mechanically good, they are detuned big time, something like 25HP.

Yes, another bike for the collection. I told you I was thinking of continuing to add to it. A bobber is my first choice... you know... a bike I can rip-up and not clean, ever.

However, I am looking at another bike, despite my uncertain future of riding as much as in past years.

To my original comment; when visiting dealers of other bike brands, around here it is a completely different experience than walking into a HD dealer -- and not in a positive way. With an HD dealer, there is consistency, and a more professional level of dealership. Yeah... one can knock HD and its dealers all they want, but show me a BMW, Kawasaki, Victory, Yamaha, and etc dealership network that is as consistent. You cannot; which is what causes my reservation after having gone through the HD experience.

You can knock it all you want... but until you have experienced it, you cannot speak with authority -- but only observationally.

The four Victory dealers within 50 miles from my house do not ever have a new Victory in stock. Two of the dealers deal in everything from tractors to snowmobiles. Motorcycles are third-string on their product sales list. That doesn't feel good... no matter who you are.

Just saying Ponch...

I've ridden some Harleys, they are fun but not worth the money that people are sking for them. I have a newborn daughter. I have 26 years left on my mortgage. I refuse to borrow money for toys. I paid cash for my motorcycle and cash for my RV. If I had $25,000 in cash it would be put immediately into savings for the household fund and savings for my daughter's education fund.

I have plenty of friends who are paying a lot of money a month for a lot of years for a Harley that gets ridden about 1/10 of the time my Nomad gets ridden. It seems whatever free time they have they spend washing it, waxing it and customizing it so it doesn't look like everyone elses Harley. In my opinion, the ride of a $16,000 Harley isn't 5 times more enjoyable than my $3000 Nomad.

you are right about detuned 61hp on the r1200cl and 109hp on the r1200gs but I think the Nomad is in the 61 hp range stock

The stock R1150 is 95 HP and that is what the R1200C is based on (Oilhead). The R1200GS/R/RT is a somewhat different engine (Hexhead). It has a balancer shaft that smooths things out and it makes more power, 110HP. In 2010, they changed the heads to have double overhead cams with shim adjustment. Same power, but more torque, 88 vs 85ft/lbs. The new watercooled boxer makes 125hp and 92ft/lbs. Not bad for a 1170cc's.
