Riding the lower 48
First of all - thanks to all that have posted so much information. Great stuff, just what I asked for and more. With your help I've crunched all sorts of numbers using multiple scenarios and have determined this adventure just isn't happening - not at this scale. I am not wealthy, I still have a mortgage and a day job. Taking this much of a trip (no more job at the end) and paying that mortgage would pretty much wipe me out. I honestly don't know what I was thinking. Boredom and dissatisfaction sure can impair one's judgement.
At least for now, it looks like I'll have to be satisfied with a week in the NC/TN mountains during the Vulcan Rider's Association National Rally in July. My local chapter is running the whole thing and it's always a great time. Thanks again everyone! |

Nothing worn with dreaming. And, don't forget the KawaNOW Rally in Maggie Valley, NC in June.

Nothing wrong with dreaming. I will bet that most of us have. I know that I do. I have already told the wife, "The day I retire we pack the bike and take off for a loooooong trip". As with most of us, this is something that is impossible to do when you have a job and bills to pay. Just remember, you can still plan ahead for the day you retire and then take off for the trip of a lifetime.

I am going to win the megamillions lottery ($295,000,000 right now) and spend the rest of my life riding the country. My employer will never see me again.
