I was in FL during Thanksgiving a year or two ago and had to ride back from Oviedo to Mims FL about midnight. Jungle swamp, pitch black and the height of rutting season too. Im guessing two dozen deer crossed my path on that 40 mile ride. Their little glowing eyes looked like the haunted forest from Wizard of Oz. Put the fear in me. Ride safe.

You might be right, or armadillo. Any way you cut it not a good match for a bike at 55 MPH. It was a seat puckering ride. Swore I'd never do that drive again after dark. It's wonderful in daylight though, except in love bug season.

"Bug Season"...man I ran through a 100 miles of giant grass hoppers...from near Globe Arizona all the way down to the New Mexico state line, a few years ago....I STILL have Grasshopper parts in various places on the bike !..I bet my deer whistles are still plugged ? ! ? (they are mounted under the floor boards)

We have deer all over, even in the back yards down here. Like everyone says, its not a matter of IF but When you hit one. I cant help but think it will be poetic justice when I do since I spend so much time trying to kill them!

Your "first" crash? Do you plan on having more?

I think crashes are like marriage, and when they over you pick yourself up, dust your busted ass off and hope it never happens again.
Sometimes, next thing you know it's off search for the next ride. In either event. "First" is just a nomenclature designation to remind you of the devastation of either event I reckon.

Ordinal numbers applies as the particular number designating an event. Nomenclature is a body or system of names. Exempli gratia, After my wifes first marriage, I married her, and due to a lot of sex after not having any, and cases of beer, much later come to realize (and wish I'd known) the reason she was divorced was she was damaged goods, therefor she is now on her second marriage wiff me. Or; After my first deer strike I kick my deed bike to the curb and purchased another. Then after my second deer strike I kick that dead bike to the curb and purchased another. The ordinal number in each event designates the series. First Marriage/Deer Strike is the nomenclature. I love this place!

Damn, when you in your 20's death till you part don't mean that much. Hell I didn't think I was gonna make it past 30. Then you find out married folks live long, which just compounds the relentless pain and anguish.
