I agree...metal grates suck. Especially when wet! We have several of them in the area.

Yup I get the creeps on high windy bridges, but of those in NY they seem to know I am coming as there is big signs with 1-800 numbers to call for a crisis The one from Delaware to Annapolis MD is high long , has winds, fast traffic and a cheese grader deck in places, not to mention a 90 degree bend. I hate places like that to ride.

That was pretty cool. The dumb ass should have drove or backed his car off. It looked like he had plenty of time.

"No human life was lost in the collapse of the bridge. Tubby, a black male cocker spaniel, was the only fatality of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge disaster; he was lost along with Coatsworth's car. Professor Farquharson and a news photographer attempted to rescue Tubby during a lull, but the dog was too terrified to leave the car and bit one of the rescuers. Tubby died when the bridge fell, and neither his body nor the car were ever recovered. Coatsworth had been driving Tubby back to his daughter, who owned the dog. Coatsworth received US$450.00 (US$7,600 with inflation) for his car and US$364.40 (US$6,100 with inflation) in reimbursement for the contents of his car, including Tubby"
And for the record, there's just two things that pucker me up, that's that steel mesh grating the love to use on the big bridges and a big old tar snake on a 95 degree day.

Crossed this one in the rain. Was OK once I got off the steel grate. The rain was an answer to a prayer for my wife (riding pillion) who is afraid of heights. Her helmet fogged over and she couldn't see a thing.

I've been on a number of these bridges you guys posted, to include that one in JD Hog's area.

The one that always gave me the willies was somewhere outside of Delaware on the way to Maryland. It was so long ago that I can't recall the exact location but I do recall the creepy feeling when riding over it. It is steep climb up and over and I recall being in a hurry to get off of it the first time and not in a hurry to ever ride over it again.

That must be the Bay bridge (The William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge). It seems a lot of people pay to be driven over it because they're afraid to drive over it.

That bridge is about 15 miles from our home and my wife still gets nervous crossing on it on high wind days. They can really blow through that narrows with white caps on the water that is a long way down.

The state added a second span several years ago.

Nice to hear I'm not the only one who hates those damn things. Worst time was coming thru Ft Worth about 20yrs ago when I was still driving semis. I thought drive a rig over those interchanges was going to be the end of me. Riding high above the barrier knowing it wouldn't stop a 40 ton truck almost made me come to a complete stop. It's one of the reasons I quit driving semis.

When I was in my twenties I used to cross the mighty mac just about every weekend during the riding season. Worked in Traverse City and lived in Escanaba (da UP eh). I would ride on the steel for fun back then (young and dumb).
