With my Cobras, the only time the bike backfires is in low gear at a specific RPM, around between 2000-2100. Other than that, sounds fantastic, and runs great. The little it backfires isn't enough to bother me. May change intake or get EJK one day, but will leave well enough alone for a while. Lol

@1500 RPM......COBRA +1.2 HP/+4.4 PNDS ......V&H+1.3 HP/+4.5 PNDS

@2000 RPM......COBRA +.6 HP/+1.4 PNDS...........V&H +.7 HP/+1.6 PNDS

@2500 RPM......COBRA +2.1 HP/+4.5 PNDS...........V&H+2.2 HP/4.7 PNDS

@3000 RPM......COBRA +2.8 HP/+5 PNDS............V&H+3.7 HP/+6.4 PNDS

@3500 RPM......COBRA+3.2 HP/+4.7 PNDS..........V&H+4.5 HP/+6.7 PNDS

@4000 RPM......COBRA +2.2 HP/+2.8 PNDS..........V&H+4.4 HP/+5.7 PNDS

@4500 RPM......COBRA +2.4 HP/+2.9 PNDS ..........V&H+4.5 HP/+5.2 PNDS

@5000 RPM......COBRA +2.4 HP/+2.5 PNDS ..........V&H+4 HP/+4.2 PNDS

@5500 RPM ......COBRA 2.6 HP/+2.4 PNDS............V&H+2.6 HP/+2.4 PNDS

The Tri ovals are a far more restrictive slip-on as they do not have a straight thru core as does the V&H slip-ons. The V&H's are deffinately louder with more of a "bark", the Tri ovals are very mellow in comparison.

We just modified a Vaquero with the Tri-ovals, a BAK and PCV, we did not get the gains in peak power as I have seen due to the Tri-ovals restrictive design. My modified Cobra round slip-ons I had on last year with straight-thru baffles to replace the restrictive baffles that came with those slip-ons made more power thru the whole rpm range, these big twins need to BREATH!!

Bottom line, if you want an increase in power, both brands will do just that. It then comes down to cost, appearance, sound levels and how important the actual power increase over stock that is provided by each slip-on.

Were those numbers without a fuel controller and air kit?

He says totally stock, so figure judging from results on his own bike, those number should increase dramatically with intake and proper tuning. What I find interesting is that the intake is said to be the main restriction, but even so, power can be found just relieving the exhaust some.

Stock means different things to different people, so I asked.

Vance and Hines vs Cobra tri ovals

This is the last part of the video my brother and I shot last week on the install of the Cobra tri ovals. He has a Vulcan 1700 Nomad, me the Vaquero. We did a side by side comparison. The only reason we did a side by side comparison is I had not found a video that compared these two exhausts with essentially the same engines.

That's a good side by side. The Vance and Hines sound deeper.

Yes, I would like to get a db reading of the vance at idle. I recorded my tri ovals at 92 average, they could have been bouncing off the wall, I will try it in a more open space away from buildings. I used a phone app, just to get an idea. My tri-ovals were used, so broken in, they sound deep enough when I accelarate or blip for down shifts.

Very good comparison. I have the V&H's on my vaquero, and I'm not saying this because that's what I installed, just my opinion, but to me the cobra pipes have a tangy sound. They look great though, I came very close to getting them. The V&H's have a deep rich tone, roll on the throttle and they get attention. I've had countless compliments, really happy I got them.

There is company called Miller that has a very nice sounding muffler for our bikes it is European. Also the Super trapps sound great on the HD, and not obnoxious.

Fortunately, my brother isn't a member here

so he can't see my response, but I agree, the Vance and Hines do sound better than the Cobras. There is definitely a "tininess" to them. The Cobras sure do look better though. So, I guess it's a tossup.

Sburpee....I had the Cobra power pro tuner in my ride with air and 2-1 pipe. It never ran right with it and backfired a lot. I took it out and put an adjustable Cobra FI2000 tri pot tuner in it and got the bike to run better, stronger, without the backfires, smoother and it was easy to set...just follow the instructions and for $175.00. I have the Freedom Performance 2-1 pipe, the best cornering clearance, best sound, best price made in the USA.....got mine for 520.00 from Phatperformanceparts.com in Ca. Comes in black or chrome with black or chrome rear tip.
