Dunlops vs Metzlers

After having two bad rear Metzlers I went for the Elite 3's. The fronts were great. The rear Metzlers went 12K and 16K before coming apart. The Elite 3 has 17K and I'm sure it'll see 20K. (I probably just jinks myself ) The shaft and rear needs maintenance before that, but I'll run it on out. If something don't go bad, I'll never be able to justify a new bike. In short, Elite 3's for me.

Just installed Avon Cobra 150/80R-16 front tire Saturday.

Have not put enough miles on it yet to form strong opinion.
Do know they "growl" a little in the turns, but so did the stock Stones and current Metzler 880 bias.
But the Metzler bias front, with less than 1,000 miles, also vibrated so it came off!
Sending it back today.

I have a Metzler 180 radial rear, running consistent 42 lbs (checked at least twice a week) and its starting to cup with just over 5,000 miles.

Choices for Nomads are limited, especially in radials.

Hi, Did the growl just start after the front Avon Cobra was installed ?
Could it be the rear tire that is growling ?

TC did you buy from the dealer?? How much $$$


RB, I bought it online from Dennis Kirk. I did find it cheaper elswhere but I know DK ships the samr day and you get it when they say you will get it. I got it today and an independent shop is putting it on for me tonight.
I paid $190 total. Don't know how much frank is charging me to put it on.

Thanks TC. and I will be calling Dennis Kirk ASAP with my quote from www.motoxcross.com and see what they'll do. Their prices are a fare bit higher. rear. is $205. Frt. is $181. total of $386. {no shipping chg. over $100.} ... that's an $80. difference. Do you think they'll meet/beat the price?
Oh and I like the "RB" in place of rickyboy.....I'll add that to the profile. :)

I got my set of Avon Cobras Friday morning, (just as Dennis Kirk promised) total price was $358 (I had a discount coupon from them). They both are made in England. Front was manufactured in Oct. '07, rear was Nov. '07 so they're about a year old. Should have them on in a week or two. Can't wait to get them on since the rear is cupping and down to the wear bars at 7005 miles on the tire. (Metzeler 880)

RB,they should match the price, I got my V&H baggers from them 2 1/2 years ago for $98 less than their retail price.

Its not the rear.
Metzler bias front 880 growl was much worse than Avon. Plus vibration mentioned earlier.


I'm sure VulcanE will give a good review as soon as he gets his new Cobra's installed.
