ALMOST WENT DOWN & CAUGHT ON CAMERA!

Just my random thoughts after watching the video.

I agree about possible target fixation. It also looks like he was mentally preparing for that ATV to run out into his path, and had the bike upright while making the decision whether or not to do an emergency stop. When the threat was assessed and he saw his exit, he took it. Only it was too late to lean the bike over and hold his line.

Speaking of that, it doesn't look like he set himself up for that curve very well. He was left, but as other have said, should've started his lean a second or two sooner, a second before he became aware of the ATV.

By starting his lean sooner, he would've changed his exit path/emergency stop path, and could've brought the bike back up OR powered through while still staying on the right side of the road.

As it was, he was late, which put his exit path into the other lane. I also think he could've leaned it over a lot further in an attempt to power out of the turn. It's hard to tell in that video.

Either way, glad the only thing to come of it was a dirty pair of shorts.

I'm glad that it ended up being nothing more then a scare, it could have definitly ended up worse. Like others have already said, thanks for posting that if for no other reason then as a reminder how quickly situations can pop up.

Similar type situations have happened to us all. Sometimes we get lucky but you still got to be good to be lucky.

ALMOST WENT DOWN & CAUGHT ON CAMERA!

Sorry I am catching this post a little late, maybe this will get read and maybe it won't, but I always follow the "outside-inside-outside" rule of going through a turn.

I looks to me (and it's hard to tell) that what caused him to go into the other lane (aside from looking at the ATV) is that he straightened his bike a little in order to break. If he had started the curve on the outside, he should have been able to straighten his bike and hit the breaks hard without leaving his lane. They teach this technique in any Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course.
