Riding at night

I really enjoy night riding, the coolness and all. What I don't like is the bugs that splatter all over my bike/car. My wife is always on me when I drive at night ( Car ) to slow down and watch for deer, as she does. I don't see the logic, hit a deer at 40 mph or 60 mph, don't think it matters in the long run. Anyway the animals are never a concern for me, I think if your time is up, it's UP, no matter what. Now I am not saying that I don't watch for the glowing eyes off to the side and I use all my lights (light bar) and will slow if I think I spot something and even sound the horn, if I see deer standing along side the road, most will run back away from you if they hear the horn first. I just don't get worried over riding at night. There is nothing like doing a all nighter when on a trip. The entire road is yours at about 4AM, just you and god almighty.

Riding at night

I agree with most of what is being said here. I enjoy night riding myself and when teaching on Friday night I have no choice but to ride in the dark. Also when it's early spring or fall it's gets darker out much earlier and I ride to work every day until Dec 1.
I have additional lighting front and rear, slow down, as suggested. I also learned one way to avoid some road debri is to follow in the tire path of the vehicle in front of me. Most drivers try to center the debri with their auto. Also...I hate to admit it..as you get older your night vision ability decreases.

Be careful folks.

I also have the Wagner H4 bulb. Only $8 at NAPA. Nice improvement over OEM bulb. I am going to get some of the reflective tape for my helmet as well.

Oh I forgot...the package on the bulb states 'Original Equipment" replacement so I keep the package with me in case a nice trooper wants to see it before he decides not to write me up.

After looking at my bike I think I will invest in some black reflective tape (assuming it hides as well as advertised) and put it on my hard bag brackets, frame, maybe some on the brake lines, my black helmet, and anything else black. This ought to light me up at night!

On a previous thread it became apparent that some of us got black reflective tape that was totally black in the daylight, and some got some from the same place that was too silver in daylight.

Don't know why the difference, but mine is black as can be.

Just a warning.

if anybody rides alot at night you might check out this vest at Duluth's Trading Company, its Hi-Vis color with 2 inch strips of 3-M reflective tape front/back AND has 6 pods that light up steady state/flashing that runs on batteries. looks like a quality product for like $60. :-)
