I dunno. It really doesn't "need" anything. I'd just be replacing bling with more bling.

Hi Guys,

This may have been posted on one of the many Redwood Rally pages but I am too lazy to look..................I just wanted everyone that might be interested that HWY 36 from Red Bluff to Hwy 101 is supposed to be an amazing motorcycle ride. I have never ridden it and won't on this trip but some of you coming from the south or the east may want to consider riding it.

It has alot of turns so it takes awhile.

I was planning on taking 299 west from Redding to the 101 at Arcata, but since you mentioned this, I may take 36 west from Red Bluff instead. Mileage and time-wise, it's a wash. Only a couple of miles difference.

Has anyone ridden 299 west from Redding?

My son and his new bride drove 36 in May while on their honeymoon, he says it's a beautiful ride.

Just when I thought I had my route and gas stops set, I'm now thinking that I just might take 36 to the south out of Susanville to Hwy 101 instead of 44/299. Google Maps says it's only 20 miles further and 25 minutes longer to Crescent City and looks allot more interesting although riding two up and loaded down, some of the experience will be inhibited.

Ya know Scott we could take 36 across to the 5 and still hit Livermore which is in central between 101 and 5.. Just a thought. It will be hotter than f*ck going that way that's why going back down the coast with you is fine. I was either going to take the 299 or 39 east and the way back but the thought of 95 degree heat for 5 hours sucks...

Crescent to LM via 101 shows 391 miles down the 101
439 miles down the 299 to the 5
438 miles down the 36 to the 5

Not at all. I would just like to avoid the Grapevine as much as possible. I haven't been down the 101 since I was a kid on vacation with my folks.
