It's not really a choke, just a fast idle. :)

caddman11,
You said you mounted the horn on it's side.
I found the following in the twisted throttle speel about the horn.

"Per the manufacturer, this horn should be mounted so that the cylinder is vertical (with the horn facing down). There should be no more than a 15 degree variance from the vertical position. If it is not mounted per these specifications, then the horn may cease to function after a period of time."

You might want to rethink the way you mounted the horn, if I've understood you correctly in your explanation.

Thanks for the info Rickyboy, that info is not included with the horn, but it is on their website, now I have to rethink what I've done. ??? ??? ??? ???

Stebel's website indicates 25 degrees, I guess that 90 degrees is a little more than that. Geeze, it looks so good that way too. :-/

Is there any sense to hook up both the Stebal and the stock horn? Or can it even be done??
For those who have the Stebal already,...where did you purchase yours ?
I see the Stebal are available a bit cheaper on ebay, than Twisted Throttle.
Any thoughts??

You can, and some people have, toggled between the two. But in my opinion, when you need a horn you really need a horn and you won't want to be fussing with a toggle then the horn button. You should't have any problem using it when you need it, no matter what, I don't think it will break any ordinances.

I've purchased mine from Biker Hiway, same price as on E-bay, at least when I checked, maybe a couple bucks difference in shipping but I wanted the wiring kit also, which was not on E-bay.

I've been looking at the horn on eBay, and the wiring is available now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Wirin...4008QQtcZphoto I'll probably make an order soon. (still paying off the PhatII Risers and some other stuff, then on to the newer stuff!)

Did you folks say this could be put in the place of the existing horn? I don't really need two.

nighthawk,
apparently it'll fit where the OEM horn was/is.

Here is a link to Gadget's page with instructions for the air horn install. His is on a 1500 which came with 2 horns so he has notes on replacing one or both. a 1600 would be only one. http://www.gadgetjq.com/airhorn.htm

I have installed a Stebel and left the stock horn in place. I use the stock horn when I'm about to pass bicylists, pedestrians or when i just don't need to really blast someone. The stock switch operates the stock horn.

I added a push button micro switch on the top of the left hand switch housing. This switch operates the Stebel. It is located where my index finger can easily press it.

Therefore, thumb operates the stock (anemic) horn and index finger operates the Stebel (very loud) horn.

Here's a view of the added switch:

Here's how I mounted the Stebel above the stock horn:

How did you mount it? I mean did you make your own bracket etc.

Then, to dress it up, I put some chrome strips on it that I have used a lot of on the 2006 NOMAD. You get the chrome strips at Auto Zone for $14.95 a 20' role.. The horn was $19.95 plus tax. The stock horn was $86.00... Oh, I had about 18' of the chrome left over for some decorating other areas of the bike. Just a fast and low cost option.

P.S. It will go onto the same mount, and uses the same two wires.
How is that working out for you? I need something soon.

I took a piece of slotted angle iron similar to what garage door openers are mounted with. I cut off one side of the angle leaving a flat piece about six inches long. If you look at where the black wire goes over the bracket you can see a slight bend in the bracket. I put two bends so it makes sort of a "Z" shape. That sets the horn back just a little. One end of the bracket is mounted on the upper bolt of the engine guard. My ground wire is also under that bolt. The horn is mounted to the other end of the bracket. I spent maybe 20 minutes making the bracket and painting it.

Any pics taken while you were making the bracket by chance?

If you switch the OEM horn bracket around, you can use that. I may have a better pic at home.

Here's a pic showing the bracket installed. I stuck a paper towel behind the bracket just to make it show up better.
