Speedometer Accuracy

On my bike the speedometer is off by about 5-7% even with the 180/70 Metzeler on the back. However, the odometer seems to be accurate. Is this possible with electronic speedometer/odometer? With mechanical speedometers the miles and mph correlate, but I'm not so sure with the electronic speedos. Anyone else see this?

I only check my speedo when I am alone on the road. With other traffic , I just go with the flow!

Here's an anwer I pose for a builder for custom speedometer faces. Since our Speedometer goes from 0 to 140, how about changing it to go from 0 to 130 using the same amount of needle movement and just spreading out the spacing? That way straight up instead of 70 would be 65 and it would fix this linear increasing inaccuracies on our bikes speedometer. The maker of the custom speedo's said they couldn't do it.

Think about it for a moment and you'll see the logic. If the face was redone with this our speedometer would be pretty accurate enough at all speeds. Wonder why it can't be done?

BD, I believe the guy that makes custom speedometer faces said he could do it BUT he would have to have a large number of people to preorder so it would be worth the retooling to him. i also believe that this fix would only fix the mph not the trip meter or odometer.[/quote:1nes3q76]

That would be so but the odometer is off by far smaller margin, like 3% tops. A one size up taller tire 160/80 or 180/70 and the new speedo face would put you right on the money on both speedo and odo.

I have the same situation with the same tire. About 3 mph off at 70, but I have checked the odometer against mile markers for 60 miles and it was not off by any noticeable amount.
