That's not entirely true. With enough money, anything's possible. :)

Hey Michael.....don't let these knuckleheads scare you off.....they truly are just joking with ya.....thats how they roll. Sheesh.....when I first got on here.....hhhmmm....long time ago now....I'll bet I PM'ed CJ and BD with the stupidest chit they ever heard.... To their credit...they answered all of my questions....uniquely qualifying me to answer those same dumb questions when asked by somebody else at a later date. That's called payin' it forward.......and for sure....the only dumb question is the one you don't ask...! These guys like to kid around, but they are the real deal for good intel on your Nomad...so wax on, wax off Grasshopper....and keep firing questions when you need some help....!

Things do get entertaining here on some Friday nights. I have a 4 speed 98 1500a and a 5 speed 08 Nomad. It's rare that I reach for an extra gear w either bike though I know most prefer having a 6th. My 1500 weighs less than today's 900s and is dual carbed so it can throw you back in your seat even in 4th. Is a 6th gear really that much of an improvement?

I'm thinking that if my bike had a 6th gear I'd have to run 90 mph to keep from lugging the engine. So.......... the number of gears you have depends on the ratio of one gear to the next. Just because the new bikes have six gears doesn't make them any better IMO.
So those of you that have sixth gear ( Kaw Only !) How many rpms do you turn @ say.... 75mph ?? I run about 3250 @ 75 mph in 5th .

That's what I was thinking. I feel I'd have to be close to 90mph for a 6th or I'd be lugging it.

On both my Voyager and XCT....you could/can run at 75 mph at around 2800 rpms in 6th gear. That may not seem like much difference.....but consider the feel between 4th and 5th. Sure, you can run all day long at 60 mph in 4th....but it is much more comfortable to do so in 5th, right? It's the same at 75 mph. You can do it all day long in 5th....but drop it into 6th and you are kicked-back clickin' off miles like you were in your lazy chair suckin' barley pops and watching football....! If you don't do a lot of high-mileage cross-country trips, it may seem like no big deal, but for those who do...it can be a game-changing improvement. JMHO.
