Same here in Ohio: Too hot to ride... too hot to go to the campsite. Went out riding this morning for the first time this week as temps cooled finally. Heading to the campsite as soon as my trash is picked up in the AM for some riding!
We had two storms here: Friday the first, I made it through it. Second one Sunday got me. Lost power from this one for over a day prompting me to get a generator finally... ironic I only needed it for a few hours before power restored (will still use it with my trailer). Made nice with the neighbor running a cord for her fridge. My 9 month pregnant niece in SE OH had power off over a week. Stuck it out at home with a generator until temps topped 100 degrees then went to stay with her dad. Saddest part: passing my local produce farm to see half of their sweet corn field lying down... you can mess with my power but don't mess with my OH corn |

Yes, you can look forward to this until late September.

Global warming! Global warming! Global warming!
Sorry, I just couldn't resist. Over the years, the bride and I have considered many places to live when the California expenses and nut-cases got to be too much. We just can't ever seem to find any place with a climate like the SF bay area. Honestly, it's unbeatable. I refuse to live in a climate where I could literally be killed by the weather. 100˚ (or more) for days on end? No thanks. Accidently lock yourself out of the house in the middle of a -15˚ winter and die before help arrives? Not me. We get bitchy around here when it rains too many days in a month - during the winter. If we want snow, we visit, play, and drive back home. Heat waves are anything over 80˚ lasting more than two days. Our air conditioning consists of opening the windows. Humidity is something we get in a sauna. You might see me gripe about many things, but never the weather. Sorry to hear about the miserable conditions. It certainly makes you appreciate what you have once it returns! At least you have an excuse to focus on your hydration.

Several days in a row of 100 plus temps here. The days that weren't that hot was in the upper 90s. Next week it will be about 10 degrees cooler if you can call 90 cooler.

Today is the first day that I have rode in a while due to the heat. Odd how 85 feels great after a week or more of 100.

I wore a coat today... it was so brisk in the upper 80's!
I've got a neighbor across the street that I mentioned once before. He has never ridden a motorcycle in his life and last fall bought a custom chopper. You know... flame paint, all chrome, S&S motor, straight pipes, chrome skulls all over it... Well... he has a habit of pulling his bike into the garage after riding it; gets off and lets it run... while he gets a beer out of the fridge. He then walks around it looking at it while it sits there running... sometimes for 15-20 minutes. Very annoying to say the least because that thing is louder than loud -- even at idle. Well... the end of the story is that during this heat-spell of 100+ weather (with garages being hotter), the bike basically blew-up! I was able to witness it also. It made a terrible sound, backfiring and all... and then smoke and then died on the spot. I LMAO at the fool... He threw a rod in the engine is what he said they told him. It must have gotten too hot he said. You think?... I asked. Geez... Anyway... the good thing about the heat-wave is that I don't have to listen to that thing rumbling anymore, because it doesn't look like his wife is going to let him pay to have it fixed.

Doesn't matter where you are.... Arizona, Wisconsin, Texas, Ohio... etc. Just learn to stay hydrated when you ride in the heat.

Amen to that Trip. I drink a bottle of water EVERY time I stop, hot out or not. Dehydration is the enemy of riders whether it is in the 50's or the 100's.

I think Tulsa, OK is on pace to set a record for the number of days about 100° F this year. We set the record last year for 44 days above 100... this year we hit the century mark earlier in the year than last year. Sucks to ride in anything above 95 here, especially with the humidity.

Last evening on the local news they were showing planes landing at Sky Harbor Int'l and their tires were sinking into the tarmac when they were touching down.

Went to the Safeway at 11am and it was 109˚F. It's going to be a warm one.
