It sounds like they have improved the Bridgestones from the older style, I can only find limited brands here locally and Bridgestone never seems to come up. Metzeler and Dunlop seem to be more popular around here.

I had good luck with Metzelers on my last bike. I can't remember the exact mileage but was way better then stock tires. I was over 30k miles with the stock tires and two Metzelers on the back. and one stock and one Metzeler on the front. Still had enough tread left on the bike to sell it.

I replaced the oem tire which had some where around 15000 miles on the front with the new max and I love it . It handles great on wet and dry roads . When it wears out I will replace it with another max .

I see you can order them on the web for just a few dollars more than the oem,s.
I was hoping to get an update from the OP on this thread. I would like to see what he has gotten out of them over the year.

I just put a set of Exedra Max on my 05-1600, . I was pretty disappointed as my only choices were OEM (I just survived a blowout and tread separation on the rear after 7800 miles and religiously watching pressure), ME880(I hated these things on my V-star no grip in corners, insta-skid under hard braking), and the Exedra Max (the unknown quantity from the same manufacturer as the OEM).

I had switched out the V-star to MT66 and I run Night Dragons on my Sportster. I love the Pirelli tires and really wanted to go with a set of those on the Nomad . While I'm a big fan of the Sith I'm not gonna go darkside on my bike. I ride hard and want tires with excellent grip and halfway decent wear, neither was present with the OEMs'.

200 Miles on the Exedras so far so good, nice roll rate, they feel really smooth, and road noise seemed quieter. I'll continue to test and I'll keep y'all posted.

Got 12000 on front with exedra and 15000 on front with exedra Max 3000 miles more with the excedra Max. 5000 with the excedra rear and 6000 with the excedra Max on rear. Only 1000 miles more with the Excedra Max rear tire. I do not seem to get as many miles out of my tires as some do but the roads here are rough and that may have something to do with it.

johnberryus. You stated this.

"I was pretty disappointed as my only choices were OEM"

You can fit Avon Cobras to your bike, 150/80 front and 180/70 rear.
I had 2 sets on my 05 Nomad.

Unfortunately my tire guy did not offer those, and at the time I did not really have a chance to look around as I had just had my bike towed 93 miles back to him after the rear blew out. He only offered me the three choices OEM, ME880, and the Exedra Max.

I will remember that for next time though, in case I'm not happy with the B-stones Exedra Max.

Did you like the Avons? How well did they perform?

Thanks for the info.

I liked the Cobras on my Nomad. 23,000 kms on the back and 27,000 kms on the front and they still had some to go.

8,000 miles on my Michelin Commander II and very little wear. I see no problem getting 16,000

Guys,

I recently put the Michelin Commander II 180/65/16 on the rear on my 05 Nomad and am very happy so far. I want to go with the same type of tire on front but they don't make them that size for front. The OEM size is 150/80/16. Michelin has that size as a REAR tire. Is there an issue with putting a tire that is marked as a rear tire on the front? Need to know.

Thankns,
T

I'd love to find out if the compound is actually better. I'm burning through rear tires. I do a lot of two up with luggage and I can't seem to get but 5000 miles out of a rear. Went through two and a half rear tires last season. OEM front is fine, got 10k or so out of it.

I have 6,000 miles on the rear Michelin Commander II on my voyager.
It still looks like new. 180/65/16.

Mileage on Metzeler BIAS ME 880 Marathon

Presently I have 18,000Km (11,185Miles) on my Metzeler BIAS ME 880 Marathon with no Cupping (use Dyna-Beads) and looks half worn -- had it slide a couple of times when braking in heavy rain but my Michelin Alpin PA3 205/60R16 Rear Winter Car Tire had enough bite to keep me upright.

My Nomad came with the Metzeler Front Tire when I bought it and it looked fairly new but haven't talked to original Owner as I got it at a Motorcycle Dealer.

By the Way my Michelin Alpin PA3 205/60R16 Rear Winter Car Tire has the same mileage and still looks brand new with no noticeable wear.

I have already purchased a Avon Cobra Rear Tire used for the Nomad 1500 to put on the front of my Nomad 1600 when the Metzeler bites the dust.

Rear tire belts are laid in different than front. Not recommended to put rear tires on the front.
They make a 130/90 16 for the front. That's what I'm going to.
