Cam Chain Tensioners

I had time to check the travel on the rear tensioner after getting home from work. The end of the bar is 7/32" from being flush with the end of the threaded body. I will check the front tensioner on my days off this week. I'm shy of 1/4" travel by 1/32" at 23,000 miles. Gadjet's instructions state that being 3/8" from the end of the threaded body is fully extended. So, I have about 5/32" of travel left on the rear tensioner. Guess I should order the extenders with Joe to have them on hand when I need them.

Gather up all of the replacement parts: extenders, gaskets and o-rings. I was not able to re-use any of the original components. After my original check, the o-ring on the rear cylinder leaked.

ND, Did you have to completely remove the bottom air duct to access the front cylinder tensioner? Or did just removing the left side air filter backing plate give you enough room to remove the tensioner assembly. My intake is completely stock.

Mitch,
I still have the original air set-up; for carburetion, so the FI set-up is probably different. For the front cylinder I removed the left air cleaner, filter and the plate that holds the filter. I removed fuel tank and the intake box. I removed the intake between the cylinders to get the cross over tube out of the way. I also removed the crossover tube from the back of the carb. We can take a look at your bike in a couple of weeks and see.

I was thinking the intake was going to be more difficult to remove, but I didn't think it was too tough of a job. Plus, now I think I'll tackle a new Thunder intake after removing this stuff to get at the front tensioner.

Good deal. I'll order the gaskets, o-rings, and the extenders and I'll take care of this after the Hill Country ride. I still have about 3/32" of travel left on the rear and I'll check the front next week. I'll definitely have to remove the left backing plate to be able to remove the extender cap. I'm pretty sure the front will be equal to or worse than the rear.
