1700 Safety & Recall Information

These ain't your father's motorcycles. On the new electraglides if you rev them up as you shut them down the system remembers that as your idling speed and the machine idles too high the next time you start it. The cure is to shut down two or three times without revving it.

Think computers!! Because that is what is controlling these new machines. You don't shut off your computer in the middle of a program. You go through the proper shut down procedure. Also, as it seems in this case, you have to wait until it is fully booted to use it.

1700 Safety & Recall Information

Starting instructions for the 2009 1700's:

1. Start the bike.
2. Put on your helmet.
3. Put on your gloves.
4. Get on the bike.
5. Ride away. (Steps 2 through 4 ought to take at least 12 seconds.)

Once you get the habit down, it should be a piece of cake.

1700 Safety & Recall Information

In a country where we sue step ladder manufacturers because we fell off,(complaints such as "but I didn't know I would be so high up if I climbed it") companies are always sending out "stupid" letters. And then we laugh at them because "they" send out "stupid" letters.
Its CYA stuff and if they don't do that they get to send out the ultimate letter, filing for bankruptcy. ::)
I'm just sayin'.....

Think computers!!

This is probably a part of it all...with the FI and initial automatic choke and idle, there's a little torque generated. They are probably doing a little CYA as well as giving "fair notice". I personally go through a routine similar to what "Yellow Jacket" suggested and have only once felt like I was on some wild maverick.
