I finally installed or got the Stebel horn installed. Lucky for me I have a friend that's a wiz, { in my eyes } with anything electrical. I can handle a wrench, hammer, saw, etc. but when it comes to elec. I don't have a clue. I have to admit that I was a little disappointed, expecting this horn to set me on my a$$ with it's "loudness". But it is better than the OEM horn. And it should at least be heard well on the HWY.....that's what I wanted it for.

It should be plenty loud. I scared the crap out of my wife with mine the first time I used it in the garage, lol.

I had a Stebel horn (139 db) on my VStar. I bought it on Ebay for about fourty bucks. It came with a relais. Bought thicker wires so it wouldn't blow the fuse. I wonder if I could use the horn on my 1500?
A friend made a bracket to fit on the old bike. Now the 1500 has two horns. Do I remove both horns? And where would I put the new horn?

I do have to say that the horns on my Nomad are pretty loud. That is why I haven't replaced them yet. Anyway, the Stebel horn has saved my life a few times.

Most of the dummies are on the left side but from what everyone says it is loud enough they will hear it. I don't see a good place for it on the left side. Either my foot or the key will be in the way and it's really not enough room to tuck it in between the radiator and the cylinder.
That is where I mounted mine. Made a short bracket out of steel. My only advice is to push it back behind the crash bar more than you would expect. Somehow, even though mine is behind the bar a little, it is rubbing the front fender on hard left turns. Not enough to scratch paint, but enough to leave black marks from the black plastic.

I wouldn't remove the two horns. Wire the new one in with the relay, and splice one of the factory horns for the switch (whichever side you mount the stebel on). More horns are better and you can't mount that air horn in the stock location...at least on my bike.

You can splice in to one side of the stock horn harness quickly with one of these:

Then, you'll only need to run a wire for ground to the battery and a wires for the relay.

You may consider the Stebel T80 Magnum horn. It is an all electric option. 2 horns pull a total of 12 amps. Can be hooked up to the stock wiring, You just need an extension to the second horn. They are rated at 115db each. I picked mine up for $5 on ebay. My wife told me she could hear them from 2 blocks away.

If you look into the garage section and find my old post about it, I have a few good pics of how it works just fine and still looks good to just flip the mounting bracket, if you cannot get ahold of a custom made one. I might try and find it later but I am at work and on limited time.

Have fun.

Here's a link that shows where I mounted the Stebel on my 2000 1500:

I made a bracket to bolt to the engine brace and the top radiator mount. I removed the left horn and used the horn bracket to mount the relay. Glad I put it on. It has gotten the attention of a few dummies on a cell phone.

Here's how mine is mounted using the OEM bracket. Very easy to do...

Anyone know what the decibel level is for stock Nomad horns? The Stebel Magnum claims 136dB. Is that significantly higher than stock? They're electric which would make for a simpler install. And available in black or chrome finish.

I remembered your original post. Works just fine to reverse the stock horn bracket and maybe a little tweaking to line it up just right. I hooked up mine with the wiring harness from Eastern Beaver. Made installation a breeze and the quality is first class.

Hi guys. On the subject of playing with our horns...

I had a chrome Nautilus + a Magnum TM80 but didn't like how the Nautilus looks stuck on there and the trumpet part of the Magnum has just fallen apart!
I've decided to go back to the stock horns but also hook up a pair of the regular TM80 horns along side them for somne extra oomph!
So my questions are...
1, Can I use one of the bike's existing 10amp accessory looms to power the relay for the pair of TM80, rather than using a new circuit off the battery? I believe the pair's rated at 11amp.
2, Could I use the horn live at the fuse end to power on my Techlusion TFi unit? I know it says to use the rear light, but my bike has a light switch so if it's switched off then the TFi thingy ain't working??

If any one can help with any of these I'll be very grateful indeed!

Cheers guys.
