I am pretty excited about this mod. I have never been overjoyed with the tone of the V&H exhaust. Can't wait to try it. Thanks for sharing this with us.

If ya'll find a machine shop to make this, you might mention there could be more units purchased from forum members. Might get the price down....

I also sent the drawing to "Chuckster" to see if he had any interest in making them. Said he just might make a pair for himself and see if he likes the sound. May be a source.....

Yea I been looking around to for a machinist, But what surprised me the most was the price of metal. LOL This may turn out to be a EXPENSIVE project.

I like the brass look, but when I priced 4" round that was $35.00 a inch.

got to be a cheaper way.

DAMN, good to know Scoot. Wonder if SS would work(cheaper/higher))? I like the brass look too but ,,,, Could just use steel and painted it? I'll be following this closely.

Essentially, this is an old trick bikers have known about for years. I saw a "how-to" article in a motorcycle magazine over a year ago addressing this very issue. Basically you insert a bolt that passes through the exhaust port on the muffler. It has the effect of breaking up the flow of air and increases back pressure.

You guys are on the right track, and the pieces you made look 100 times better than just a bolt through the port.

Yeah, I saw that same article CJ. I wonder what a pin would do to the stock debaffled pipes ???

TC you just take a 3/8 inch drill bit and drill horizontally through the last few inches of the muffler and insert a bolt. ;-)

I live with and rent a house to share with a industrial machinist.

I can print the drawing out, but don't want to step on anyones toes.. We use bronze (expensive stuff) Stainless alot and also expensive, varrious aluminum alloys, and brass.

He doesn't do much steel, that would need to be chromed, but we do take stainless for treatment to a shop that does chroming.

I work for him part time, and just maybe he is looking for smaller custom work.

Before I go and invest in his time I need to know I am not stepping on anyones toes.

Mac....no way are you stepping on mine or Cliff's toe!! And as the saying goes, " I don't have a dog in this hunt," except to help the guys find a source.

IMO its a mod worth doing IF you want V&H pipes louder and much lower then stock baffles.

I've also talked with two machinists today. One is not interested. Not enough volume. The other is putting a pencil to it.

And as far as material goes, not sure what will work out to be the cheapest, but aluminum runs less than 3.00 a pound. Doubt you can get much cheaper than that.
I did not weigh the 4x4 piece of aluminum I gave Cliff, but doubt it weighed more than 5lbs.
And 4" diameter is stock size....actually 3.75 would work even better but may not be stock size.

I just talk with a metal shop here in the valley and they can supply me with a 4"roung x 5" long piece for $32. Sounds kinda pricey, but it was the best I could come up with.

My cousin is a machinist and owns his own lathe. He said he would make one for free for me. (:

I'll let you know my impressions. I too am very excited about this mod. I hope it turns out well.

Wondering if they have to be solid? ???
They could be assembled with stainless tubes and MIG welded maybe?

This got me thinking now!!!!! ::)

Mac, No you won't be stepping on my toes. I just designed this up to help me and DKDixie get a little better sound out of the V&H. The idea came by thinking of "thunder monsters" and "Rush pipes". I made DKs out of aluminum, and just happened to have a couple of (large) nuts that the threads were stripped out, that was Armco Bronze. That stuff cost $100 an inch to buy in 4" diameter bar stock. Anyone who wants to make themselves a set is welcome to it.
