You can overcome that issue with some taller bars. That'll put the mirrors above your shoulders. Not sure how apes would look on a Vaquero, though. (This ape would look great on one.)

Saw a black Vaquero with mid rise ape hangers, they looked good, but I do not like my arms riding at that raised level over extended hours when going on road trips, the stock bar works just find for me.
