Gerry I had two eye openers while driving a truck from work.
The first was a woman in a SUV coming toward me the wrong way in a traffic circle. I passed her with my hand firmly on the horn, she with her hand up to her ear with a cell phone completely oblivious to what was going on.

The second was real scary. I'm in the inside lane of a busy 3 lane highway doing about 60mph I suddenly realize that the car that was way ahead of me is no longer way ahead, in fact he has back up lights on and is backing up in that lane, presumably because he had just missed the exit by a couple of hundred feet. There is no shoulder at the point where he is just a guard rail. I had just enough time and room to get in the next lane and would never of stopped in time if i stayed in that lane. As I passed hand on the horn, I see he is talking on a cell phone while doing this.
Of course people can multitask!

Like you CJ, I no longer answer my cell phone while driving and I would like to see all States ban the use of them by a driver of a moving vehicle.

Banning them is fine, but many will ignore the law unless you make the ticket super expensive like say $1500.

I agree that the fine should be high.
I think 30 days straight, mandatory community service 8 hours a day, no time off for
the weekends, doing whatever your community needs done. Who will enforce this though?
