Why would a mechanical tensioner be preferred? You'd have to regularly open it up and adjust it. For $30 you can add Joe's extender, reset it, put it in, and you're done. Never need to worry about readjusting it, and it's cheaper.

There should be a low oil warning lite/alarm that comes on if your oil gets low! as a matter of fact, I have a brush cutter/mower that has low oil warning buzzer that sounds off with low oil, and my generator wont even start if the oil sensor says it is to low!
Doesn't you bike have a site glass for checking oil levels?

Apparently, he needs warning buzzers and flashing lights to tell him when to check his oil.

Yes that would be a very nice addition!
IMO both the so called "sight glass" and oil lite are a joke!

And again, if the cam chain is fine, why would I need to add anything?
I think you guys are overkilling this need for an adjuster anyway, has anyone ever heard of anyone ever wearing a hole in the spark plug tube from a "loose" chain????
Nuff said.

Oh god now you stepped in it.

I know personally of several who have worn holes in the spark plug tube.

Epibunny's started flowing oil out of the tube when she was hundreds of miles from home.

Ok so it does happen, just wanted to make sure. it would seem to me that if it got to the point of banging/wearing on the tubes, you could plainly hear it, yes? That would be the time to add the extenders, before it got to the point of wearing holes in tubes. if and when i get to that point i will be adding the mechanical ones. Each to thier own.

I still say that if they can put a simple low oil lite warning system in a generator, they could surely put one on a motorcycle! whats the big deal?

Or you could just make a habit of checking your oil regularly.

Because Generators by nature are usually a single cylinder engine with a small oil sump capacity, work extremely hard and probably are not built to the close tolerances that a motorcycle engine is. It is a much finer line between full and low on oil when you are dealing with about a quart of oil or less for capacity. The warning mechanism is there for a form of protection and usually rigged up to shut the generator off in case of getting critically low on oil. Would you want your bike to shut down on a freeway when you run it low on oil?
Motorcycles engines much like cars, are machined to closer tolerances and less likely to burn oil if maintained and oil is changed at the proper intervals. They also have a greater oil capacity in the case of the Nomad close to 4 quarts. For you to be down 2 quarts, you must have run a long long time with out checking or have never checked or changed the oil. Having a low oil warning light would just invite lack of proper maintenance. Sometimes engineers make these things this way for the good of the machine, not the good of the people. The oil pressure light is not nor was it ever designed to facilitate monitoring of the oil level. It is designed to warn you if there is a sudden loss of pressure, such as in the case of oil pump failure. Granted you may or may not save the engine, depending on how fast you are going and how quick you notice it and shut it down. Oh yeah and cars are the same way, except they have a dip stick.

No Tim I don't, and I am quite sure if after you ask a question or ask for help, you would appreciate the offers or time spent replying and say thank you instead of being argumentative.
