Hey, hey, it's good to see you're back. Sheila and I were talking about you a couple of weeks ago and was wondering how you were doing.

Hi, Mike good to hear from you. Its funny Deb and I were talking about you and Sheila the other night to. We were talking about going back up to Bedford to the D-Day Memorial maybe this summer. But lets hope, that it' not as hot as the time we all rode up there. I'm doing great and looking forward to a good year. Deb and I are looking forward to seeing you guys at the Rally in the Valley. Talk to you again soon.

Aaron is back indeed! He's as vibrant and full of life as ever. Due to the weather and my stupid work schedule we haven't been able to get together and ride lately, but he's a blast to hang around with when we do meet.

Aaron, glad you came out of it OK.
What were you having as signs that let you know you were having a stroke?
I had just gotten off the tractor from plowing. As I was walking back to the house I got a very intense sharp pain in my head felt like a bullet would feel I guess. Pain was very, very intense. then my vision started to get fuzzy and my right arm started to get numb along with the right side of my face. I sat down on the porch steps for a second and realized what was happening. I am a retired Law Enforcement Officer and was a certified EMT so I had seen this before and knew what was happening. So I managed to get up and get in the house, the phone is right inside the back door and I grabbed it and hit 911. I was home alone and I couldn't tell the dispatcher my name or anything, I was hyper-ventilating by then and about to pass out. The Volunteer FD Rescue came in about 10 minutes and started with 100% O2. Then they transported me to the ER, there they gave me 2 shots in the stomach one on each side. Ran some more tests got me stable then transported me to another hospital about 45 miles away that had a Neurological and Stoke Facility. I stayed there for 4 days then I went into some rehab. Had trouble speaking but my speech came back in about 2 weeks or so. The use of my arm and legs were better after 4 days and I could walk. After that it was just working at home and taking the Meds. They had a hard time keeping my blood pressure stable and it took them about a year for it to stabilize and get my medication right. But I am doing fine now and can ride the bike with 2 up with no problem and I fell really good now. But since the stroke I didn't really associate with any of the clubs that I belonged to including posting on here. I had trouble with my thoughts and getting things straight. But all is good now and I'm back to almost normal, however several people on here will tell ya I've never been normal. lol. So that is the story.

Glad to be back and feeling blessed.[/quote:qvt5p013]

Holy smoke! You're a tough one, Aaron. Like Hank Williams said you'll never leave this world alive ;)

Very glad you're doing fine. Enjoy life!

Cheers,

Elvis

Guess I am very lucky. Back in 1997 my nose started bleeding at work. It stopped and I didn't think anything about it. Later that night the wife and I were watching Cool Hand Luke on video and it started bleeding again. It was bleeding profusely and wouldn't stop. Wife got me a towel and helped me get dressed and she drove me to the emergency room. My blood pressure was out of sight. Probably hadn't been checked in a year or two. Called in an ear, nose and throat specialist. He packed my nose and blew up a little baloon type device inside my nose. Kept me for four nights. Told me if my nose had ruptured like it did I would have had a massive stroke. I feel fortunate to be amongst the living.
You never know. When working in the ER we had a lady come in one afternoon with a nose bleed that would not stop. Doc tried the tampon in the nose...no luck; tried the catheter inflating the balloon....no luck; this went on for so long that she was actully getting a little shocky (decreased blood pressure/increased heart rate). Long story short landed up flying her out by helicptor. 1st and only 'nosebleed' I've seen flown out by helicopter. :-/
