It's nice having dads you respect.
I always did mine. Your post gets me to thinking of him. And for that, thank you.

Thanks for sharing your dad with us, my dad used to have an Indian back in the 50s, but I don't have any photos. Make some time and go ride with him again, because they're gone before we have time to do all that we wish we could have done with them.

What a great picture of your dad and his bike. You can almost hear it rumbling at idle as he waits for the camera to click so he can ride off. True Americana photo. Thanks for posting it.

Just thought I'd throw a pic ( a picture of a picture ) of my Dad in here. He is on his 1934 Indian I believe. He passed in 1990 and never owned a motorcycle after he married my Mom. Not that she was against it, she rode with him before they were married. :) I think it was the money thing. Raising 4 kids in those times was kinda tough I imagine.
He never tried to discourage me from getting a bike like my friends fathers did. I think of him everyday as I'm sure those of you who's parents have passed think of them.

Thanks for Adding Tim. I was kinda hoping that others would have some old black and whites to put up.

Wouldn't it be neat to have Kawanow members fine their oldest picture and post it. I am going to have a look for mine ,when I do I'll start a new topic and see what happens, or you feel free to start one before mine :):)

Very cool pic. It's great that you've had that kind of relationship with your dad.

Thought I'd resurrect this old post. My pops sold his Vulcan. He's 81 now and had gotten to the point where he didn't feel confident in his riding, was offered a good price for the bike and sold it. My dad has always owned a motorcycle and this had to be a tough one for him.
I was in high school and working a parttime job. Pops talked me into buying a Honda SL350 (didn't take a lot of talking). It would've been 1974 and I had just turned 16 and gotten my license. He had one (SL350) at the time and financed me so I could get mine and we could ride together. These were a heavy bike but a fairly capable trail machine and could still run 65mph on the roads (we lived in northern Michigan so lots of trails and dirt roads). The red one (his) was a 70 and the green/turcoise one was mine a 72. Just reminiscing a little. It's the end of an era. I'm probably having more trouble with this than he is.
