This article is from the Motley Fool website. Of course this won't cure "Harley Mentality" but you can only do so much for em.

PS I picked up my Nomad 2 years ago....sittin in a shop with a bunch of new and used Harleys....they all looked the same. The Nomad stood out from that crowd!

BMWs rated a bit worse, but have about the same loyal base as HD. It's an inverse relationship between reliability and loyalty. It's all about what you believe.

Wow, two posts and you're already insulting other members.

That article is a bit misleading because the vast majority of the so called reliability issues were minor things not engine or clutch. Added to that is the fact that Harley sells Electra glides, Street glides and BMW w the GSA and GTL bikes have a ton of stuff that can go wrong compared to a much simpler sport bike.

BMWs have more that can go wrong, but there are common enough problems with some things that at least I would think they wouldn't have them to begin with or nip them in the bud quickly. My advice to anyone that wants to buy a BMW to get a model that has been out for at least 3 years. HD is more of a simple bike or at least no more complicated than most touring rigs. The 2014 adds some complexity, but it's still not cutting edge. It's not intended to be.

Hey CactusJack, my apologies if I offended you. My comments merely echoed similar sentiments expressed in this thread (and IMO are far less insulting than some of those I read). I am a motorcyclist first and foremost, owning and riding over 40 years. My current scoot is a Nomad besides two others in the garage. My riding mates cover the gamut from crotch rockets to full dressers, including HDs - we like to ride and if we express "brand loyalty" it is always in fun. If on the other hand I offended you because I am an FNG with "only" two posts then disregard what I just said....I guessI will always be an FNG to your 19k posts. I'll buy the first round if ever our paths cross.

As cheap as Scott is, you'll always be buying. At least that is what I've heard about the guy and I get my info from a reliable source!! The same guy that breaks starch everyday with his shirts.

Rich, Scott gets offended easily at times. We have had a number of new members who came on here and wondered why someone such as Scott (originally owned a Nomad) who rides a HD is still here at a Kawi Bagger site. Well, I've known Scott since basically the start of the forum and have had the pleasure to shake his hand for 5 years now.

The HD mentality is one that you do see. If someone has that mentality they definitely wouldn't still be here harassing us Kawi Bagger riders. It has been the friendships developed here that are the reason many stay here. Scott is one here that did a bunch of work to his Nomad to make it what he wanted. When he wrecked it, he decided to buy what he had built it into since Kawi didn't have anything close to what he wanted.

Best thing you can do is plan on hitting a rally as soon as you can this summer. The North Central Region is planning on a rally in June that is based in Arkansas. If you really want to venture out, look into the NW region section and head out to Orofino, ID for a real rally with the SW and NW regions as well as a few Canucks that are planning on coming down.

I too wondered why guys that have different bikes other than Kawis stayed here. But after going to the Rally last year at Estes, now I understand. These guys are all friends that started on Nomads and have built some very close friendships. I'll be going to Orfino this year too.

Once you attend a rally you look forward to the next one.

...Well my 2 cents worth for...the moment... :>) (cause I'm seldom finished.at just one)

First of all...I love the 1st ammendment to the US Constitution..giving us ALL the chance(RIGHT) to speak up and insult anyone that may take offense..(tho I'm a sensitive sort..and try to be good to all differing opinions...(however in my "senior years" I have become -less- polite to that tribe of top floaters that now own all our info/entertaiment outlets, and who have maneuvered to re-set the Constitutional protections to cover --just themselves !

As for Big KAWK's Standing Out in a crowd...My big brother was building an Old School 62 Ford Falcon Street Rod...one winter down in Canon~City, Colo..went in a local part's house/snow mobile dearlership for something...and saw a 2002 Kawk DRIFTER sitting there...among several other types of bikes for sale...
A customer had just traded it in on two snow machines so he and his wife could go snow-slammin .....
Well tho it was mid winter..he bought it on the spot..and still has it !
Because it just "STOOD OUT"..from all the rest !

You better hope a newby shows up or you are still the beer assistant for the rally.
