The 1500 engine is commonly replaced with a 1600 engine from the later models.
Is your bike carbureted or fuel injected ?

Yep, G1 is carbed, the 1600s are FI, put a 1600 in, put your old intake and carb on, crank her up and go....I won't tell her she's got a carb on if you don't....
All thats stopping the bolt on is the holes on the intake.....but thats been gone over about a Gazillion times....

"All thats stopping the bolt on is the holes on the intake.".
What about the ECU/igniter, and the other differences in the wiring loom.? TPS for example.

The 1600, with the 1500 ign. system, will run. TPS is in the FI's, the ignitor/ignition doesn't give a damn what the engines plugs were hooked to, as long as the spark can jump a gap....
Your using the 1600's engine with the other systems ign and carburation.... TPS's can be a pain, but they can be adapted....all they are are rotary potentiometers.... Folks use 1500 fi's in 1500 carbed chassis's, don't they?????? Ya know, thats why they adapt the holes to accept the carbed intakes.... Been on those triumphs too long Mick....need to get yourself a Vaquero! Or a later 1600/1700 Nomad.....

I would have thought, that the longer stroked 1600, would be timed differently to the 1500. And that the Igniter/ecu would need to match it ? They certainly wont just plug in to each other, as they are totally different. If they weren't different inside too, why would they make them that way ?
