My mom had a younger brother that lived in Montana with my grandma. He sort of looked after her after my grandpa died. He always had a Harley Electra Glide. We'd go up to visit in Great Falls and my uncle would take me all over town on that hog. I think I was 8 or 9 before my mom would let me go with him, but that put the hook in me. I started with a mini bike at about 12, then at 15 I bought a Honda 250 Elsinore. When I was stationed at MCAS El Toro while in the Marines, I bought a sportster from a Marine with orders to go to Okinawa. He was a motivated seller and I picked it up cheap. I rode it all over SoCal and rode home to Salt Lake City when I got discharged. Had to sell it to buy a car because winter was coming, and that was the last bike I owned until 2007, when I decided that I would take up riding again. I discovered I liked touring and that brings me to where I am today. I've ridden over 100,000 miles since I started riding again 12 years ago. Not so much the past 5 years due to some health issues, but I am putting those behind me and plan to ride more. I like the freedom of the open road.
