Wondering if you can reach the pumpwith a long probe type stethoscope? maybe? If you could, it might help isolate the sound....just thinking out loud............Mike

Try putting 4 or 5 ounces of MMO in the tank on the next fill up. This may lubricate the pump and stop the whining.

I had a sticky fuel gauge float in the tank on my Nomad and this fixed it. I ran MMO in a tank of gas twice a month after that.

Since the original pump and the replacement pump makes the exact same noise, I don't think it is the pump directly. I am thinking its the pressure regulator. I took it apart this weekend, removed the pressure regulator and cleaned it with brake cleaner. also blew out the housing the pump is hooked into. Put it all back together, primed it and started it up, its quite now, but haven't took it for a long ride yet so maybe this weekend I will know more.

If not next step is to get one of these and see if that fixes it. Which is the fuel regulator on the outlet side of the pump.

Just curious... I didn't think the main filter that piggybacks onto the pump was available to buy anywhere... least, not that I could find.
Have you got connections ? lol
Cheers, Pete.

This fits the oem and the replacement pumps from them.

Quantum/Highflow sells a package of 6 for about $14 the last time I checked. Why Kaw would say you can't change them so they can sell you a $600+ fuel pump is outrageous.

MMO is a great fuel pump lube, is also a great upper cylinder lubricant, keeps your seals/orings on heads, barrels soft and pliable. Another low cost alternative, about a oz. of automatic trans fluid, or mmo at 6 mos. will keep things going a long time.....
The methanol fuel has a tendency to dry out these seals/orings, etc....

Ahhhh...the pre filter/strainer. Yes, had replaced this a few times over the years.
The actual part I thought you were referring to is the final filter housing...the white plastic unit with regulator left side of picture.
This is what blocks up with micro-crap. A (careful) reverse flush once a year helped keep it clean running with no issues. This I believe is what causes a screaming/whining sound when too much micro-crud builds up.
Cheers, Pete.
