Issue with progressive for install

Hey folks,

I am kinda stuck installing the progressive fork springs. I have never done this before so hopefully this is just a simple lack of experience problem.

I went to gadgets page and read his install guide. And got the part number from there (1145)

I have the forks removed from the bike and the spring caps removed from the cartridge rods, the rods retracted into the bottom half of the forks and I cannot react them. Is this normal? where do I go from here? There is a wire I need to tie around the rod nut to finish the install and to drain the tubes I need to move the rods up and down to flush out the gunk in there. I have them draining out now and will move on to the stem bearings that I am also replacing today. hopefully someone can get me unstuck.

Also, I have read a lot of the threads on here about the spacers. The springs I removed had no spacer at all. The spring I removed is about 1" longer then the new progressive on the floor. Does that matter at all?

Just in case someone else runs into this problem... It was just a total lack of experience. Once I had the fork tubes upside down for a few minutes draining the fluid out the rods extended by themselves and with some longish needle nose pliers you can grab the rods easily.

The 'all balls' stem bearing were a bit more difficult to install then I had expected. I had a lot of trouble getting the old race out of the top of the neck. I had to make a run to harbor freight for a dremel tool, to cut the race out. Not what I was hoping for but it worked well. I also went to home depot and got a 1.5" galvanized pipe to seat the lover bearing onto the stem. All worked out well.

The only problem I have now is these two buggers I found while cleaning up my tools

Any ideas where these go? I'm sure it will be clear soon, lol.
