1600 exhaust help
I am new to this forum and have been told this is the place for answers. I have an 08 Nomad 1600 that I want to add new pipes to. I have a fairly new Cobra Tri Oval mufflers but still have stock pipes. What do I need to do in order to put the tri ovals on? One bit of advice was to find true dual head pipes and then add the tri oval mufflers. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes that info is correct. The stock head pipes enter to the goat belly, and won;'t work with after market mufflers.
You need 1 and 3/4 inch head pipes made to fit Vulcan heads, and then you can run any mufflers you want if you can make mounting brackets. Road House mufflers use the rear saddlebag guards lower mounts, V&H use the stock muffler location bolt hole, but replace the bolts with American threads on the muffler cans. I have no idea how your mufflers will mount, but you still need 1 and 3/4 inch head pipes. I have never mounted a Cobra set of pipes, so I am not sure how they compare to V&H Baggers.

That's the only way to make them work. Find a set of dual exhaust pipes, them mount the tri-ovals on them. The funky stock exhaust and the goat belly is the issue. You need to get rid of those.

The advice was correct. The stock head pipes will have to be replaced to be able to put aftermarket mufflers on. Aftermarket head pipes such as Vance & Hines or Cobra, maybe others that I,m not sure of will work. If you can't find any on eBay you might email V&H or Cobra, they would probably sell them to you.
And Welcome to KawaNOW from Arkansas.

Well there is another way, but it isn't practical. You would cut off the stock head pipes after the bend and add more staight pipe bending where ever needed, then send it out for sheetmetal and chrome most all of it.
If I was gonna do that I would use double wall pipe and be done with covers.

Lots of good advice...thanks for the info. I will start searching for the head pipes and hopefully with some luck I can find some.

A muffler shop with a pipe bender should be able to help you out also.
Welcome to the forum, you should go to the new member board and introduce yourself.

I may check into the headers as well. I really like those Tri-ovals, just need to find out if slip-ons will fit onto an 08 Nomad.

No, they won't if you have the stock exhaust system.
