Engine Oil Leak in Clutch

I have a 2000 Nomad FI, 24K miles and recently developed an engine oil leak in the clutch housing on the left side of the engine. I think its coming out by the shaft that goes into the clutch. The clutch itself works fine. Anybody had a similar experience or have any ideas on how to fix.

Thanks

Don

Welcome to the board. Its probably the shaft seal, just replace it. No more leaks. Not real common but they do wear out.

That happened to mine just before my trip to Vermont! The stealer changed the seal and all is well.

Don ...If you are sure its engine oil leaking, Ringadingh is right about the clutch push rod seal probably being the culprit. If you replace it, be careful when installing it that you don't push it in further than flush with the housing. There is no lip on the inner side and if it was to fall inside, it would really ruin your day. If it was brake fluid leaking from the clutch slave cylinder under the left side cover, the seal on it may need replacing. Good luck and welcome to the forum...

Engine Oil Leak in Clutch

Mine was the seal right at the edge of the rubber boot on the swing arm.

Thanks for the info. Does anyone know what the part number is for the seal. I looked at the drawings at the Kawasaki site and can't seem to find a "seal".

Engine Oil Leak in Clutch

While mine was still under warranty I had a leak coming out of the rubber boot. Shop worked on it and 2 weeks later leaking again, so back to shop and they again replaced seal. 2 weeks later leaking again, this time they replaced the rear drive and that fixed it. They told me the oil in final drive was leaking and going up the drive shaft and leaking out the boot.

Don ...I did a little research and came up with a link for you to see a parts breakdown on the push rod seal. It is listed on the front bevel gear parts breakdown. The part number is 92049-1017. This issue has been discussed extensively on Delphi Vulcan Forum and this is where i came up with the info.
http://fiche.ronayers.com/Index.cfm/...evel_Gear(1/2)
It seems this problem comes up quite often. On older ones like ours, replacement of the seal is the best way to go. On newer models, some have found the seal has come out of the housing and rides on the the pushrod shaft. A little gasket glue and a reinstall of the same seal seems to work quite well. I hope this helps....

Thanks to all of you for your help. I will get a new seal and put it in. Should solve the problem.

Note to anyone else with this problem. If you accidentally push the seal beyond the opening, DO NOT remove the shaft. I used a piece of strong wire that I bent with a hook so I could grab it from behind and yank it out. Don't know how you would get it out if it came off the shaft.

Thanks again.

Don

I pulled my service bill from Ron Ayers on this repair. It will give you an idea of what the stealer will charge and the part numbers. This is how it is listed on my bill:

92049-1038 Oil Seal, TC35527 $10.04
92049-1033 Oil Seal, SC32487 $0
92049-1248 Seal-Oil $10.04

Labor $165.00
Supplies $8.25

Total before tax: $163.33
Sales Tax $ 1.91
Total Repair Bill $195.24

clutch slave seal is the most likely culprit, not a hard fix.
