Brake Question
I changed the front brake pads on my nomad this morning, I pushed the
pistons into the caliper as far as they would go,put the pads in place and the calipers went back on the wheel with no problems. Once everything was tightened down I noticed there was a lot of resistance when I tried to spin the wheel by hand, it won't spin, even hard to turn. Is this normal with new pads or do I have a problem. I haven't rode the bike yet afraid something will over heat with that much resistance. I'm new to this forum and the amount of information I've received by reading the threads is very much appreciated. Login or Register to Remove Ads |

It sounds like something is not in place properly. It should still turn freely with just a light rubbing on the rotor.
Or you may have a seized caliper that won't let the pistons go back in, they get crud built up on them that needs to be cleaned up. You will probably have to take the caliper apart to clean it well, and change the brake fluid.

No, this isn't normal. How did you push the caliper pistons in? Did you use a tool, like a c-clamp?
I would open the bleeder on each caliper (CAREFULLY, or you might get a faceful of brake fluid) and see if the fluid squirts out under pressure or just dribbles out. Don't get brake fluid on your paint. I'm thinking you compressed the fluid in the brake lines and it's like having your brakes applied all the time.

Thanks guys
As soon as you guys posted it wasn't normal the bike was back on the jack and found the problem. When I put the pads in place I had to tap the pin that goes through the holes in the pads to get it to seat properly and it was holding the inside pad to tight and wouldn't let it release. Everything back together now and working fine so thanks again. |
