Vaquero Oil Screen?

I have searched around a bit and cannot find my answer. Is there an oil screen in the 1700 Vaquero? I did see there were two oil drain plugs. Is there a screen under one of them? I will be doing my first oil change at 600 miles very soon.

Never mind. I found it in the shop manual. There seems to be two. An oil screen for the scavenge pump and another for the feed pump. However to get the screen for the scavenge pump out you have to remove the lower water pipe and to get at the feed pump screen you have to remove the frame downtube. Is all this really necessary??? Seems like a lot of inconvenience. If I were to take it to the dealer to do the first oil change would they go to the trouble of cleaning the screens?

Ah damn I did not remove any screen when I did my oil change. I better get my manual back out.

I would be absolutely shocked if the dealer checks either one of those screens if it requires removal of other parts, especially a water pipe. Does the manual say to check them every oil change? If so, that is one seriously crappy design!

Yes, I'm lazy, besides, I don't have the manual here ...

From what people have said who have gone to all the work of removing it to check the oil screen, it wasn't worth it, they found nothing there to really justify all the work. Get two magnetic oil plugs that will catch any particles and sludge, I also have the Scotts oil filter which has a very strong magnet in it.

I'd check it myself at least once, just to make sure there is nothing in it.
